SEC EDGAR Company Filings Scraper exports public filing metadata by ticker or CIK. Get company names, form types, filing dates, accession numbers and SEC document URLs for investment research, compliance review and financial-data workflows. Export structured records to CSV, JSON or Excel. This is an independent tool, not an SEC service. It returns metadata and links, not parsed filing text.
Quick start
- Enter at least one ticker or CIK.
- Choose exact form types and a small filing limit.
- Run the Actor and open the dataset to review your records.
{"tickersOrCiks": ["AAPL"],"forms": ["10-K","10-Q"],"maxFilingsPerCompany": 3,"includeDocuments": true}
Only the recent filings available for each company are searched. A date filter does not fetch older archives.
Prefer a video guide? This short Apify walkthrough shows you how to set up and run an Actor. It uses a different Actor, but the setup steps are the same.
Ready-to-run examples
Choose an example to start with a small, preconfigured input.
- Create Blue Chip Filings Dataset — Collect up to three annual or quarterly filings each for Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola and Visa.
- Find Recent All Forms For Disney — Collect up to ten available filings without a form-type filter.
- Lookup Apple Filings By CIK — Use Apple's stable SEC identifier for annual and quarterly filing metadata.
What you get
- Company identification: Padded CIK, ticker and company name.
- Filing metadata: Form type, filing date, report date and accession number.
- Document references: Filing detail links and optional primary document URLs.
- Additional context: Industry classification, file and film numbers, acceptance time, XBRL indicator and filing items when provided.
- Run overview:
RUN_SUMMARYreports saved rows, company errors, skipped unrecognized inputs with reasons, and pending companies.PENDING_COMPANIESis available when the run stops before processing the entire list.
Who is it for?
- Investors and analysts: Build focused annual, quarterly or current-report feeds.
- Compliance teams: Review public filing activity for issuer watchlists.
- Researchers: Compare filing activity across companies or industries.
- Data teams: Feed notebooks, dashboards and downstream document analysis.
Practical workflows
Maintain a small issuer watchlist
Supply two known tickers or CIKs, choose exact form values and set maxFilingsPerCompany to 3. Keep accessionNumber, companyName, form, filingDate and source links in a spreadsheet. Your own workflow can compare accession numbers between exports. The Actor returns matching recent submission records, not a complete historical filing archive.
Hand filing links to document research
Enable includeDocuments to receive available documentUrl values alongside filing-detail links. Use those links in a separate document-retrieval or analysis step. This Actor does not download or parse filing text or extract financial facts from the linked documents.
Input settings
| Setting | JSON key | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Tickers or CIKs | tickersOrCiks | Required list. Form prefill: AAPL and MSFT. |
| Form types | forms | Exact form values. Empty or omitted accepts all forms. Form prefill: 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K. |
| Filed on or after | dateFrom | Optional inclusive date. Form prefill: 2024-01-01, not an API default. |
| Filed on or before | dateTo | Optional inclusive date in YYYY-MM-DD format. |
| Maximum filings per company | maxFilingsPerCompany | Schema default 20. Range 1–1,000. |
| Include primary document URLs | includeDocuments | Default true. Adds URLs, not document contents. |
| Delay between company requests | requestDelayMs | Default 120 milliseconds. Range 0–5,000. |
Use stock tickers or numeric SEC CIKs, not company names: for example, use TSLA, not Tesla. Entries absent from the SEC ticker map are skipped with a visible warning and a reason in RUN_SUMMARY.skippedCompanies. If every entry is unrecognized, the run succeeds with an empty dataset; valid entries in a mixed list still return filings. The start fee still applies. SEC request failures remain errors, not proof of no matching filings.
Use the exact SEC form value 4 for Form 4 filings. Both date bounds apply to the filing date, not the report date. When supplied together, the start date must not follow the end date.
Form prefills are suggested values, not values supplied by every API call. If the schema default is not applied and the limit is omitted, the runtime fallback is 50. Set an explicit limit in API calls for predictable batches.
Output data
Each dataset row describes one matching filing. Optional source values can be null.
| Fields | Meaning |
|---|---|
cik, ticker, companyName | Company identifiers and name. |
sic, sicDescription | Industry code and description when supplied. |
form, filingDate, reportDate | Filing type, filing date and covered report date. |
accessionNumber | SEC filing identifier. |
primaryDocument, filingDetailUrl, documentUrl | Primary document name, filing detail link and optional document link. |
fileNumber, filmNumber | Additional SEC reference numbers. |
acceptanceDateTime | SEC acceptance timestamp when supplied. |
isXbrl | XBRL indicator when supplied. |
items | Filing item codes when supplied. |
Synthetic shape-only excerpt, not a freshly collected filing:
{"cik": "0000000001","ticker": "EXAMPLE","companyName": "Example company","form": "10-Q","filingDate": "2026-01-20","reportDate": null,"accessionNumber": "0000000001-26-000001","documentUrl": null,"isXbrl": null}
Disabling includeDocuments sets documentUrl to null. It does not remove primaryDocument or filingDetailUrl.
Download your results
Open your run's dataset, choose Export and select JSON, CSV or Excel. JSON keeps nested fields together. CSV and Excel are useful when you want to review the records in a spreadsheet.
See Apify's download and export guide for the available formats and field options.
Pricing
This Actor uses pay-per-event pricing. The start event is charged once after input validation, including runs that later return no matches or encounter a source failure.
The item event is charged for each produced filing metadata row. Company errors and run summaries are not filing rows. maxFilingsPerCompany bounds results per requested company, not the start charge.
See the live Pricing tab for current rates and discounts.
Tips for best results
- Start with a small watchlist. Inspect a few filings before increasing the company count.
- Use CIKs for precision. Tickers can change, while CIKs identify issuers.
- Match exact form values. Use
4, notForm 4, for insider filing metadata. - Keep date windows realistic. Older filings may no longer appear in the recent submissions list.
- Keep request pacing. A delay of at least 100 milliseconds is a sensible starting point for larger lists.
Limits and caveats
- Only public recent filing metadata is returned. This is not a complete historical archive or a financial-statement parser.
- Full document text, parsed financial facts and insider transaction details are not extracted.
- Ticker lookup and company availability depend on SEC data. Even CIK-based runs need the initial ticker mapping request to succeed.
- A company can have no filings matching your filters. Isolated lookup failures may be skipped while useful rows are preserved. If every company fails, the run fails.
- Large company lists may finish partially. Inspect
RUN_SUMMARYand anyPENDING_COMPANIESrecord before treating a batch as complete. - Filing metadata and document availability can change when the SEC updates submissions.
Automation and integrations
Save your settings for next time
Once you have an input that works for you, save it as an Apify task. This keeps your settings together so you can use them again without filling in the form from scratch.
Run on a schedule
Need fresh results regularly? You can schedule the Actor or a saved task to run at a time that suits you.
Each scheduled run collects the data again. If you want to compare results or highlight changes, add that step in your own workflow.
Send results to your other tools
Use n8n, Make or Zapier to connect this scraper to the rest of your workflow. For example, you could pass its results to an AI assistant or add records to a spreadsheet. Follow the Apify integration guides for your chosen tool.
For a custom connection, an Apify webhook can notify your app when a run finishes or fails. Your app can then fetch the results or handle the failure.
API usage
Want to collect this data from your own app or automation? The examples below send input to the scraper and show how to collect its results.
The Node.js and Python examples wait for the run to finish before reading its results. The cURL example starts the run and returns its details. Wait for that run to finish, then use its defaultDatasetId to fetch the results.
For setup instructions, see Apify's JavaScript client guide, Python client guide and Actor runs API reference.
cURL
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/fetch_cat~sec-edgar-company-filings-scraper/runs" \-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"tickersOrCiks":["AAPL"],"forms":["10-K","10-Q"],"maxFilingsPerCompany":3}'
After completion, fetch GET https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/DATASET_ID/items using the returned dataset ID and the same authorization header.
Node.js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });const run = await client.actor('fetch_cat/sec-edgar-company-filings-scraper').call({tickersOrCiks: ['AAPL'], forms: ['10-K', '10-Q'], maxFilingsPerCompany: 3});const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();console.log(items);
Python
import osfrom apify_client import ApifyClientclient = ApifyClient(os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"])run = client.actor("fetch_cat/sec-edgar-company-filings-scraper").call(run_input={"tickersOrCiks": ["AAPL"], "forms": ["10-K", "10-Q"], "maxFilingsPerCompany": 3})print(client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).list_items().items)
MCP and AI agents
You can ask your AI assistant to collect data with SEC EDGAR Company Filings Scraper and help you work with the results. The scraper returns the data, and your assistant can then summarize it, compare records or prepare notes.
Connect your assistant through the Apify MCP server. MCP gives your assistant a way to find this scraper, run it and read the results. Follow the official setup and sign-in guide for your app.
Easier setup with an Apify plugin
If you use a supported coding assistant, the official Apify plugin can set up the connection for you. It connects your assistant to Apify and includes instructions for common tasks. Follow the guide for your particular app.
Use Apify AI in Console
Prefer to keep everything in Apify? Open Apify AI in Console and ask it to find Fetch Cat's SEC EDGAR Company Filings Scraper. You can describe the data you want and ask questions about the results.
Apify AI is currently in beta. It asks for confirmation before starting an Actor, and normal run charges apply.
Choose your assistant
- Claude and Claude Code (Anthropic): Apify setup guide.
- ChatGPT and Codex (OpenAI): Apify setup guides.
- Grok Bot (xAI): Apify plugin guide.
- Gemini CLI (Google): MCP server setup guide. Use the server URL below with the HTTP configuration supported by Gemini CLI.
Connect just this scraper
To keep your setup focused on this scraper, add this server configuration to a compatible MCP client:
{"mcpServers": {"apify": {"url": "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=fetch_cat/sec-edgar-company-filings-scraper"}}}
Sign in to Apify when your client asks. If your client uses a Bearer token instead, follow its setup guide and keep the token in its secure configuration. Configuration formats vary by app, so use the linked guide if your client needs a different format.
Use Apify's general server
Already connected to the general Apify MCP server at https://mcp.apify.com? You can use it to find this scraper without adding another server. Ask your assistant to use SEC EDGAR Company Filings Scraper by Fetch Cat, or give it the identifier fetch_cat/sec-edgar-company-filings-scraper.
Your assistant can check the available settings and retrieve the results from the returned run. If the run is still working, it should follow that run rather than start it again. Both connection options use Apify's hosted service.
Example requests
- “Get Apple's latest three available annual or quarterly filings and make a table of their filing dates and document links.”
- “Collect up to five recent filings each for Microsoft and Coca-Cola, then group the records by company.”
- “Find Disney's available filings dated from January through June 2026, with a limit of ten, and summarize the types returned.”
Normal Apify charges apply. Check the live Pricing tab before asking your assistant to run a larger batch.
Pay with x402
If your AI agent has a funded wallet, it can pay for Apify usage through x402. This experimental option lets an agent use Apify without a conventional account.
Apify AGI provides a prepaid API token with a spending cap after payment. Your agent can use that token to run this scraper through the Apify API or an authenticated MCP connection.
Some MCP setups also support paying for each request directly. That is a different payment option, so check the official guide for its availability.
Follow the official guide for wallet setup, supported payment options and current terms. Apify handles the payments. Keep wallet keys and payment tokens in your agent's secure configuration.
Other ways for agents to pay
Apify also supports MPP for prepaid access through AGI and Skyfire for eligible Actors. If your agent already uses one of these, see the agentic payment guide to choose the right setup.
FAQ
Can I get full filing text or financial statements?
No. This Actor provides filing metadata and document URLs. Fetch and analyze the documents separately if you need their contents.
Can I search all historical SEC filings?
No. Filters apply only to the recent filings available in company submissions. A wider date window does not retrieve archived filing lists.
Does this require an SEC login?
No. The Actor uses public SEC EDGAR data.
Why are there no matching filings?
Check exact form values, your date window and the company's recent filing activity. Review RUN_SUMMARY for lookup failures or pending companies.
Can I use it as an API or from an AI assistant?
Yes. Use the API examples or hosted MCP setup above. They return structured metadata, not a built-in investment recommendation or change-detection service.
How do charges work?
A validated run has a start charge and produced filing rows have an item charge. See the live Pricing tab for current rates.
