Who uses it
- Resellers and marketplace sellers: check an item before you list it on Amazon, eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
- Thrift, consignment and baby-gear shops: screen cribs, strollers, car-seat accessories and toys at intake.
- Compliance and sourcing teams: watch a brand, importer or hazard (fire, choking, entrapment) for new recalls.
Inputs
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| productName | Partial product name, e.g. stroller, e-bike battery |
| manufacturer | Partial firm name |
| hazard | Hazard text, e.g. fire, choking, fall |
| keyword | Extra filter across every field (retailer, UPC, country...) |
| recallDateStart / recallDateEnd | Date range, YYYY-MM-DD |
| maxResults | 1 to 1000, default 100. You pay only for rows returned |
You need at least one filter. The newest recalls come first.
Run it on a schedule
- Save your input as a Task, for example
hazard: firewithrecallDateStartset to the start of this month. - In Apify Console, go to Schedules, then Create, pick the Task, and choose a weekly or daily time.
- Add an integration (email, Slack, webhook, Google Sheets, or Zapier/Make) so new rows reach you without logging in. A weekly watch on one brand usually returns only a few rows, so it costs cents.
What it costs
Pay per event: $0.005 per run start + $0.002 per result row.
- 1,000 results = 1,000 × $0.002 = $2.00, plus $0.005 per run (one 1,000-row run = $2.005).
- The 10-row example above = $0.005 + $0.02 = $0.025.
- A weekly watch that returns 5 rows is about $0.015 a week, or about $0.06 a month. Apify's free monthly credit covers small tests.
FAQ
Where does the data come from? From CPSC's official public Recall API (saferproducts.gov). Each row links to the official cpsc.gov recall page.
Does "no results" mean a product is safe? No. It means only that CPSC has no recall matching your filters. Try a shorter product name or the brand name, and check cpsc.gov for anything important.
Can I search by UPC or retailer? Yes. Put the UPC or retailer name in keyword. UPCs appear only when CPSC published them.
How current is it? Each run reads the live CPSC API. retrievedAt shows when the data was pulled.
Does it cover food, drugs, cars or other countries? No. It covers US consumer products under CPSC only. FDA (food and drugs) and NHTSA (vehicles) are separate agencies.
This is not legal advice. Always confirm a recall on cpsc.gov before you sell, buy or dispose of a product.
