Posts of public subreddits — new, hot, top, rising or controversial — page by page: title, text, link, kind, score, upvote ratio, comment count, exact time, flair, image, gallery and video, score and comments per hour, the subreddit's size; author karma on request. Only-new mode. No login.
0.2.2 — 2026-10-18 · same shared core as the comments Actor's 0.3.0
The shared reading layer picked up what the comments Actor needed to walk a thread's own "more comments"
loaders: the reader can now send a loader's POST with its cursor, and a comment list parsed out of such a
fragment keeps the right parent. This Actor does not read comment threads, and the two functions it does use
behave exactly as before, so its rows, its fields and its charges are unchanged. Published to keep every
Actor in the family on one core.
0.2.1 — 2026-10-17 · an address that is turned away is no longer read as "nothing here"
Reddit answers an address it is turning away with a page of the right size and nothing in it (measured:
the same address answered 812 KB with 24 posts and, minutes later, 368 KB with none). The shared client now
checks that an answer holds what was asked for; if it does not, that address is let go and another is tried.
Only when every try comes back empty does the run say so — and then the line is free and retryable.
A subreddit whose listing is genuinely empty is therefore no longer confused with a refusal: the status row
says which, and nothing is charged either way.
The subreddit's record is now tried on a second post of the first page when the first read fails, so one
unlucky address no longer costs the subscriber count for the whole subreddit.
The authors' karma is read for the posts the run actually hands on (a page gives 24 posts and the run may want
fewer), and AutoModerator is read like any other author instead of being skipped.
Same shared core as the four sibling Actors, which moved to the HTML path on the same day.
0.2.0 — 2026-10-17 · Reddit closed the JSON API: this Actor now reads Reddit's own pages
Why: on 16 October 2026 Reddit stopped answering its JSON API for a visitor who is not signed in — the guest
token this Actor used gets HTTP 403 from oauth.reddit.com and from the .json paths, on residential addresses
and on a clean home address alike (so it is not an address ban, and rotating identities does not help). The Actor
was in maintenance from 16 to 17 October. It now reads the pages Reddit's own web client renders on the server,
which still answer in full.
What stayed the same: every field name, the dataset shape, the post event and its price, the five listings
(new, hot, top, rising, controversial, with a period for top and controversial), the filters, the only-new lists,
the free status rows, and the Standby API.
What changed, measured on 124 posts of six subreddits and a 200-post run:
Reddit's pages give 24 posts a request instead of 100, so a long run over one subreddit makes about four
times as many requests and takes longer. Many subreddits in one run still read side by side.
Always null now (Reddit's pages do not carry them): editedAt, spoiler, locked, archived,
originalContent, removedBy, distinguished, crosspostOf, crosspostCount, thumbnailUrl,
authorPremium, and a poll's options and votes (poll; the row's kind is still poll). nsfw and
stickied arrive on media posts only.
includeAuthorInfo is now off by default. Reddit closed the endpoint that gave a hundred authors' karma in
one request; the karma and the cake day are now read from each author's profile page — one read per author,
cached for the whole run. With it off, authorInfo still carries the author's avatar.
subredditInfo is read from a post page once per subreddit: the subscriber count, the display name and the
description. The subreddit's age, type, language and active-user count are not on that page and are null.
A line that brings no posts still says why: Reddit answers a banned, private, Premium-only and made-up
subreddit with the same empty page, so the Actor asks the subreddit's RSS, which still tells them apart
(banned → "has been banned", private and Premium-only → "private"). When Reddit refuses to say, the status row
says that plainly instead of guessing — and nothing is charged either way.
Cost measured again: about $0.04 per 1,000 posts with the author karma off (it was $0.02 on the JSON path);
the karma adds about half a megabyte of proxy traffic per author.
0.1.1 — 2026-10-12
README rewritten to the foXLabs store standard: AI-agent & Standby usage, quick-start, integration (JS/Python), use cases, FAQ, troubleshooting and support sections. No change to the Actor's code, fields, events or pricing.
0.1.0 — 2026-10-10
First release. Listings (new / hot / top / rising / controversial) of public subreddits, 100 posts a request, as Reddit shows them to a visitor who is not signed in (guest token through Apify Proxy residential addresses; four addresses in rotation, each let go after 90 requests).
Every row: texts, score, upvote ratio, comment count, exact and edit times, flags (nsfw, locked, stickied, distinguished, removedBy), kind, media (image, video with length, gallery, poll with votes), crosspost origin, score and comments per hour, the subreddit's subscriber count; the subreddit's record (includeSubredditInfo) and each author's karma and age (includeAuthorInfo, 100 authors a request) on by default.
Filters by kind, minimum score and minimum comments (skipped posts are not charged); onlyNewPosts lists with one run per list at a time; free status rows for lines that bring nothing (invalid name, no such subreddit, private, quarantined, Premium-only, empty, duplicate); a run Reddit does not answer fails with its reason and charges nothing.
Standby API (GET /posts) prepared; the Actor is published in batch mode.
Fixed before release: a subreddit nobody made answers the record request with a search listing (HTTP 200) — it is now reported as "no subreddit has this name", not as "no posts".
