Google News Scraper - Headlines by Keyword, Country & Language
Pull fresh Google News results for any keyword, in any language and country edition, without an API key, without a scraping framework to maintain, and without paying a per-run startup fee. One request in, a clean JSON array of headlines out.
Why use this scraper
Google News does not offer a public API. Anyone who wants headline-level monitoring by keyword today either scrapes the search UI (which breaks every time Google changes the frontend) or builds a custom RSS parser and maintains it forever. Both paths cost engineering time that most teams would rather spend on the product itself.
This actor does the parsing for you, and does it against the most stable surface Google exposes for this data: the public News RSS search feed. Give it a keyword, a language, and a country edition, and you get back structured headlines with source, publish date, and link, ready to feed into a dashboard, a Slack alert, a sentiment model, or a research dataset. No login, no cookies, no browser automation that can get fingerprinted and blocked.
Overview
Input is a search keyword plus optional language, country and edition codes. Output is one JSON object per article: title, canonical link, source name, publication date, and a short description. A typical run of 10 to 50 articles finishes in seconds, not minutes, because there is no headless browser involved, just a feed request and an XML parse. You pay per article returned, not per minute of compute, and not a flat fee just for starting the actor.
Supported inputs
- Search keyword (
searchTerm): any phrase, brand name, topic or person. This is the only required field. Example:"artificial intelligence","Federal Reserve","Elon Musk". - Max items (
maxItems): caps how many articles come back in one run. Default 50, but you can request as few as 5 for a cheap monitoring check or as many as the feed returns for a fuller sweep. - Language (
hl): interface language code, e.g.en-US,pt-BR,es-419. Controls which language the matched articles and snippets are returned in. - Country (
gl): two-letter geo country code, e.g.US,BR,GB. Controls which country's news index is searched. - Country/Edition ID (
ceid): combined country and language edition, e.g.US:en,BR:pt-419. Google uses this to pick the exact regional edition of News to query.
All five fields can be combined freely, so the same actor covers a global keyword sweep in English and a Brazil-only sweep in Portuguese from the same input schema.
Use cases
- PR and comms teams monitoring brand mentions or a CEO's name across outlets, without paying for an enterprise media-monitoring suite.
- Market research analysts tracking how often a competitor, product category, or regulatory topic appears in the news cycle over time.
- Trading and research desks pulling headline-level signal on a ticker, company name, or macro keyword (e.g. "Federal Reserve", "OPEC") to feed into a sentiment or event-detection pipeline.
- Content and SEO teams scanning what is currently being published on a topic before writing their own piece, to find an angle nobody else has used yet.
- Local news aggregators pulling region-specific coverage by setting
glandceidto a specific country and language edition.
How it works
The actor queries Google's public News RSS search feed for your keyword, language, country and edition settings, then parses the returned XML item by item. For each <item> it extracts the headline, the canonical article link, the source outlet name (which Google embeds at the end of the title and inside the description markup), the publication date, and a cleaned description with the HTML markup stripped out. Results are capped at your maxItems value and returned in the order Google's feed delivers them, which is typically relevance and recency combined.
Because this reads a feed endpoint rather than rendering the search results page in a browser, there is no JavaScript execution, no layout to keep up with, and nothing for a bot-detection script to fingerprint. The feed format has stayed stable for years, which is why this approach is lower-maintenance than scraping the News homepage or search UI directly.
Input configuration
Minimal: just a keyword (uses defaults for the rest)
{"searchTerm": "artificial intelligence"}
Capped run for a quick monitoring check
{"searchTerm": "Federal Reserve interest rates","maxItems": 10}
Brazil, Portuguese edition
{"searchTerm": "eleições 2026","maxItems": 30,"hl": "pt-BR","gl": "BR","ceid": "BR:pt-419"}
UK edition, English, larger sweep
{"searchTerm": "Bank of England","maxItems": 50,"hl": "en-GB","gl": "GB","ceid": "GB:en"}
All four examples validate against this actor's input schema and are ready to run as-is.

Pricing
Pay-per-event. You are charged only for articles actually returned.

A 1,000-article run costs $2.00. There is no separate charge for starting the actor and no minimum run fee.
What makes this richer than the competition
Two other Google News scrapers on the Apify Store, both with meaningfully fewer monthly users than the volume this actor already handles reliably:
data_xplorer/google-news-scraper-fastcharges $0.004 per result on the Free and Bronze tiers (double this actor's price), only dropping to $0.001 at the Gold tier and above.easyapi/google-news-scrapercharges $0.005 per result plus a flat $0.09 actor-start fee charged every single run, on top of the per-result price. For a 10-article monitoring check, that start fee alone can cost more than the entire output.
This actor charges a flat $0.002 per article at every usage tier, with no actor-start fee, no minimum charge, and no tier gate to unlock the lower price. For teams running frequent small monitoring checks (10 to 50 articles, many times a day), avoiding a per-run start fee is the difference between a sustainable monitoring pipeline and one that bleeds money on overhead.
Notes & limitations
- This actor reads Google's public News RSS search feed. It does not log in, does not use a residential proxy, and does not render the News homepage or search UI in a browser.
- Results reflect what Google's RSS feed indexes for your keyword and edition at request time. Very long-tail or extremely recent (last few minutes) stories may not yet be indexed by the feed.
descriptionlength and formatting come directly from what Google includes in the feed entry; some entries have a short snippet, others only the title repeated.- This actor does not scrape the full body text of linked articles. It returns headline-level metadata only (title, source, date, description, link). Fetching full article text would require visiting each publisher's page individually, which is outside this actor's scope.
- Very high-volume keywords (extremely broad terms with thousands of daily articles) are still capped by what a single feed request returns; for continuous high-volume monitoring, run the actor on a recurring schedule rather than requesting a single huge batch.
FAQ
Does this need a Google API key or login credentials? No. It reads Google's public News RSS feed, which requires no authentication.
Can I search in languages other than English?
Yes. Set hl, gl and ceid to the language/country/edition you want. See the Portuguese (Brazil) example above.
How fast is a typical run? A 10 to 50 article run typically finishes in well under a minute, since there is no browser rendering step.
Does it return the full article text? No, only headline-level metadata (title, source, publish date, link, short description). For full-text extraction you would need a separate article-scraping step on the returned links.
Can I monitor a keyword continuously? Yes. Schedule this actor to run on a recurring interval (hourly, daily) in Apify and pair it with an integration (webhook, email, Slack) to get notified of new matches, or dedupe against a previous run's dataset.
What happens if my keyword returns zero articles? The feed simply returns no items for that query/edition combination; you are not charged for articles that were not returned.
For AI Agents & LLM Apps
This actor is available via the Apify MCP server (mcp.apify.com) for direct use inside Claude, agent frameworks and other MCP-compatible clients, and via the Apify API for programmatic use.
Direct API call, synchronous, dataset items returned in the response body:
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/gio21~google-news-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"searchTerm": "artificial intelligence", "maxItems": 20, "hl": "en-US", "gl": "US", "ceid": "US:en"}'
This returns the dataset items directly as a JSON array, ready for an LLM agent to parse without a separate poll-and-fetch step.
