CoinGecko Scraper — Crypto Prices, Market Cap, Volume & Market Data

This CoinGecko scraper extracts live crypto market data for thousands of coins from CoinGecko — current price, market cap and rank, 24h volume, 1h/24h/7d/30d/1y price change, ATH/ATL, and circulating/total/max supply — in any currency. Scrape CoinGecko the easy way: no login, no API key, no coding. Pick the top coins by market cap, drill into a category, search by coin name, pass exact coin IDs, or pull the current trending list, and get one clean, de-duplicated record per coin.

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel, or API.

Built for crypto traders, quant and DeFi researchers, portfolio and dashboard builders, data analysts, fintech and Web3 teams, and anyone who needs structured CoinGecko data without hitting rate limits or writing a client.

🔎 Why scrape CoinGecko?

CoinGecko is one of the largest independent cryptocurrency data aggregators, tracking price, market capitalization, trading volume, supply and historical extremes for tens of thousands of coins and tokens across thousands of exchanges. That makes it the reference source for anyone who needs an accurate, broad snapshot of the crypto market at a point in time.

The problem is getting that data in bulk and on a schedule. The public page shows a paginated table, the raw API is rate-limited per IP, responses are deeply nested, and the period price changes (1h / 7d / 30d / 1y) only appear when you ask for them explicitly. Copying numbers by hand, or babysitting a brittle script that keeps getting 429-throttled, does not scale for the top 1,000 coins, a whole sector, or a recurring snapshot.

This CoinGecko scraper handles all of that. It reads CoinGecko's public market endpoints, rotates IPs to avoid rate limits, paginates automatically, de-duplicates by coin, flattens the response into one flat row per coin, and hands you a clean dataset you can open in Excel or pipe into a pipeline.

Common reasons people scrape CoinGecko:

  • Price & market-cap tracking — snapshot thousands of coins on a schedule, in your currency, for time-series history.
  • Portfolio & dashboard feeds — power a dashboard, Google Sheet or internal tool with ranks, volume, supply and multi-period performance.
  • Sector & category research — pull every coin in a category (Layer 1, meme, AI, DeFi, gaming) to size and compare a segment.
  • Trend spotting — grab the current trending coins plus their market data to catch momentum early.
  • Backtesting & analytics — collect 24h / 7d / 30d changes and ATH/ATL distance for models, alerts and signals.
  • Market intelligence & reporting — build recurring reports on market cap, dominance and movers for a newsletter, fund or research desk.
  • Fintech & Web3 apps — seed a product with reliable, structured crypto reference data without maintaining your own CoinGecko API client.

✨ What this CoinGecko scraper does

  • ✅ Five ways to select coins — top coins by market cap (the default when no selector is set), a category, a search by name/symbol, exact coin IDs, or the trending list. Combine them in a single run.
  • ✅ Automatic pagination — top-market and category modes walk CoinGecko's /coins/markets endpoint 250 coins per page and keep going until they hit your limit or the end of the list, returning hundreds to thousands of coins per run.
  • ✅ De-duplicated output — every coin is emitted once, keyed by its CoinGecko id, even when search, IDs, category and trending overlap. A verification run of 500 coins returned 0 duplicates.
  • ✅ Any quote currency — re-price everything in USD, EUR, GBP, TRY, JPY, BTC, ETH and more; set it once with vsCurrency.
  • ✅ Rich market fields per coin — identity (id, symbol, name, image, url), pricing (currentPrice, marketCap, marketCapRank, fullyDilutedValuation, totalVolume), range (high24h, low24h), performance (priceChange24h, priceChangePercentage1h/24h/7d/30d/1y, marketCapChange24h, marketCapChangePercentage24h), supply (circulatingSupply, totalSupply, maxSupply), and all-time extremes (ath, athChangePercentage, athDate, atl, atlChangePercentage, atlDate).
  • ✅ Trending flag — coins that are currently trending on CoinGecko are marked isTrending: true when includeTrending is enabled.
  • ✅ Freshness built in — every record carries CoinGecko's own lastUpdated timestamp plus the scrapedAt ISO time of the run.
  • ✅ Export anywhere — download as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or pull via the Apify API; integrate with Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, webhooks or a database.
  • ✅ No key, no login, no browser — reads the free, public CoinGecko API over plain HTTP with rotating datacenter proxies; fast and cheap to run.

Every field above is pulled straight from CoinGecko's own market response — the scraper only reshapes and labels it, so what you get matches the source.

🎯 Use cases

  • Crypto traders & analysts — monitor prices, volume and 1h / 24h / 7d momentum across the whole market or a watchlist of coin IDs.
  • Portfolio & dashboard builders — feed ranks, market cap, supply and performance into Sheets, Notion, Grafana or a custom app.
  • DeFi & sector researchers — pull a full category (Layer 1, DeFi, meme, AI, gaming, RWA) to size and benchmark a segment.
  • Quant & data-science teams — build recurring crypto market data snapshots for time-series models, factor research and backtests.
  • Fintech & Web3 product teams — seed and keep a product's coin reference data current without building a CoinGecko API integration.
  • Market-intelligence & media — track movers, dominance and trending coins for newsletters, reports and dashboards.
  • Alerting & automation — watch ATH distance or 24h / 7d change thresholds and trigger notifications via webhook or Zapier.
  • Investors & researchers — compare the same coins across currencies (USD vs EUR vs BTC) to study relative value.

Field coverage (from a fresh 500-coin verification run). The identity and primary market fields — id, symbol, name, image, currentPrice, marketCap, marketCapRank, fullyDilutedValuation, totalVolume, high24h, low24h, supply, ath/atl and their dates, url, vsCurrency, lastUpdated and scrapedAt — populate on 100% of coins. A few fields are data-dependent at the source: maxSupply (~57%, only hard-capped coins), priceChangePercentage1y (~78%, only coins with a full year of history), and the 24h delta fields (~97%, null only for the newest or thinly-traded listings). Empty values there reflect CoinGecko's own data, not a scraping error. isTrending is true only for coins currently trending when includeTrending is on.

🔁 Pagination & scale

The actor is built to return large result sets, not just a first page.

  • In top market cap and category modes it calls /coins/markets with 250 coins per page and advances the page automatically until it reaches maxItems, reaches maxPages, or hits a short/empty page (the end of the list). The default maxPages: 20 is up to 5,000 coins per run; raise it to go deeper. In the latest verification run, maxItems: 500 across pages 1–2 returned exactly 500 coins in ~11 seconds.
  • In coin IDs and search modes it batches resolved IDs 250 at a time, so even a long watchlist returns in a few calls. These modes return exactly the coins you asked for (plus trending if enabled) — add a category, or leave the ID/search inputs empty, to also page through the top-market list.
  • Results are de-duplicated by coin id, so overlapping selectors (search + IDs + trending + category) never produce duplicate rows.
  • To avoid CoinGecko's per-IP rate limit, every request goes through a rotating datacenter proxy, and failed or throttled calls are retried with exponential backoff (including dedicated 429 handling).

Control the volume with two inputs: maxItems caps the total number of coins, and maxPages caps how deep the top/category pagination goes.

⚙️ How to use

  1. Open the actor on the Apify Console and click Try for free.
  2. Choose your coins — leave everything empty for the top coins by market cap, or set a category, add searchTerms, pass coinIds, and/or toggle includeTrending.
  3. Pick a currency with vsCurrency, then set maxItems and maxPages for the volume you want.
  4. Click Start and watch the live log; the dataset fills as coins are collected.
  5. Export the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or fetch them from the Apify API.
  6. Automate it — run on a schedule for recurring snapshots, call the actor from the API or client libraries (Python/Node), or wire the output into Make, Zapier, Google Sheets, a webhook or a database.

💡 Tips

  • Leave all selection inputs empty for the fastest path to the full top-market-cap table — then just set maxItems and maxPages.
  • Use category for sector research — browse CoinGecko's categories page for IDs such as layer-1, meme-token, artificial-intelligence, decentralized-finance-defi or gaming. Category mode paginates and fills up just like top-market.
  • vsCurrency re-prices every field — run the same coins in usd and eur (or btc) to compare relative value.
  • Combine coinIds + includeTrending to always get your core watchlist plus whatever is hot right now; add a category if you also want that sector paged in.
  • The multi-period changes (priceChangePercentage7d, 30d, 1y) give you momentum well beyond 24h — great for ranking movers.
  • Schedule the actor (e.g. hourly or daily) to build your own price and market-cap history for time-series analysis.
  • Keep the default datacenter proxy on — it rotates IPs so you rarely, if ever, hit CoinGecko's rate limit.

❓ FAQ

Is scraping CoinGecko legal? This scraper reads only public, free market data from CoinGecko's own API — no login, no paywall, no personal data. As with any scraping, use the data responsibly and in line with CoinGecko's terms and applicable laws. This tool is independent and not affiliated with CoinGecko, and the data is not financial advice.

How many coins can I get, and how fast? Hundreds to thousands per run. Because CoinGecko returns 250 coins per request, the top 250 come back in seconds; a fresh test pulled 500 coins in about 11 seconds, and 1,000+ coins still finish very quickly. Raise maxPages to go deeper into the market.

Do I need a CoinGecko API key or a login? No. The actor uses CoinGecko's free, keyless public API. There is no account, no API key and no anti-bot challenge to solve.

Do I need proxies? A datacenter proxy is enabled by default and is all you need — it rotates IPs to stay under CoinGecko's per-IP rate limit. You do not need residential proxies.

What export formats are supported? JSON, CSV, Excel and HTML, plus the Apify API. You can also push results to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier, a webhook or a database.

Is there an API for this scraper? Yes. Run it and fetch results through the Apify API or the official Python/Node clients, and schedule recurring runs from the Console.

How fresh is the data? It is near real-time. Each record includes CoinGecko's own lastUpdated timestamp and the scrapedAt time of the run, so you always know exactly how current a snapshot is — in the latest run lastUpdated was within a minute of scrapedAt.

Can I filter by category or sector? Yes — set category to a CoinGecko category ID (e.g. layer-1, meme-token, artificial-intelligence) to pull just that sector, paginated and de-duplicated.

Can I price coins in a currency other than USD? Yes. Set vsCurrency to any CoinGecko-supported fiat (USD, EUR, GBP, TRY, JPY…) or crypto (BTC, ETH) and every price, market cap and volume field is returned in that currency.

Why is maxSupply or priceChangePercentage1y empty for some coins? Those fields are data-dependent at the source: maxSupply exists only for coins with a hard cap (~57% of coins in a top-market run), and the 1-year change only exists once a coin has a full year of history (~78%). Empty values there reflect CoinGecko's own data, not a scraping error.

If I turn on trending or pass coin IDs, do I still get the top market too? By themselves, trending / coinIds / searchTerms return exactly those coins. To also page the top-market-cap list, add a category or leave the ID/search inputs empty — the actor then paginates the market table and merges results, de-duplicated by id.

A search returned coins I didn't expect — why? searchTerms resolves each term to CoinGecko's matching coins, which can include several tokens that share a name or symbol. For exact targeting, use coinIds with the precise CoinGecko ID instead.
