California Contractor Licenses Expiring in 30/60/90 Days (CSLB)
California Contractor Licenses Expiring returns every California contractor whose CSLB license or workers' compensation policy expires in the next 30, 60, 90 or up to 120 days, as one clean row per licensee: license number, business, trades, city, county, phone, mailing address, license status, the contractor bond on file (surety, bond number, amount, dates) and the workers' comp policy on file (insurer, policy number, effective and expiration dates). Filter by county and classification, and export CSV, JSON or Excel.
Lookup actors tell you about one license you already know. This one hands you the renewal list: everyone coming due, before the date passes.
Who it is for
- Workers' comp and commercial insurance agents: contractors whose WC policy on file expires in the next 30 to 90 days (
expiring: "workersComp"), with the current insurer and policy number, so you can quote the renewal before it lapses. A contractor whose policy lapses gets suspended. - Surety bond producers: contractors whose license renews in the next 30 to 90 days, with the current surety and bond amount. Renewal time is when a contractor shops the bond, changes entity or moves surety.
- Renewal, compliance and bookkeeping services: a contractor whose license expires without a renewal on file cannot legally contract. Reach them while there is still time.
- Agent and automation builders: a flat, typed, dated list you can schedule weekly, filter by county and trade, and hand to a CRM, dialer queue or an AI agent that drafts the reminder.
How many rows to expect
From the CSLB file of October 2026, statewide:
| Window | License expirations | Workers' comp policy expirations |
|---|---|---|
| next 30 days | about 4,300 | about 7,000 |
| next 60 days | about 10,800 | about 13,400 |
| next 90 days | about 19,200 | about 26,400 |
| next 120 days | about 28,400 | about 35,200 |
Licenses expire on the last day of a month, so most of a 30-day window lands on one date.
Input
All fields are optional. This example returns general building contractors in San Diego County whose license expires in the next 30 days:
{"days": 30,"expiring": "license","counties": ["San Diego"],"classes": ["B"],"maxResults": 500}
days: expiring between today and today + N days (default 30, up to 120).expiring:license(the CSLB license expiration date, default),workersComp(the WC policy on file, insured contractors only, policies with a cancellation on file excluded) oreither.counties: California county names. Empty means statewide.classes: classification codes such asB,C10,C36,ASB(C-10also works). Empty means all trades.withPhoneOnly: skip licensees with no business phone.maxResults: stop after this many rows, soonest expiry first (default 100).

expiringItem: what falls inside your window:license, workers comp, or both.daysToLicenseExpiryanddaysToWcExpirycount from the day you run the actor.bondCancellationDate: set when the surety has filed a cancellation on the bond. Those contractors are also in the companion bond and workers' comp lapse events actor by the same publisher.url: the contractor's official CSLB license detail page. Check it before you contact anyone; a renewal posted after the last refresh shows there first.
For agent builders
Schedule it weekly (the source refreshes twice a week) or call it through the Apify API or Apify's MCP server with the JSON input above. Dates are ISO YYYY-MM-DD, and licenseNo plus licenseExpirationDate (or wcExpirationDate) is a stable key for de-duplicating between runs. A good agent prompt: take workersComp rows with daysToWcExpiry between 20 and 60, group by insurer, and draft one short renewal note per contractor that names the policy date.
Pricing
Pay per result: each row is one billable result at $0.01 ($10 per 1,000). The default run returns at most 100 rows ($1). Apify's free plan includes a monthly platform credit, enough to try a few hundred rows before you pay anything. Set a maximum charge on the run for a hard ceiling.
Limits
- Source: the CSLB public License Master file, downloaded by the publisher about twice a week. A contractor who renewed after the last download can still appear; the CSLB page is the final word.
- The file lists active and suspended licenses only, so licenses that already expired and dropped out are not here.
- Workers' comp rows cover insured contractors only. Exempt contractors (no employees) have no policy date.
- Phones and addresses are the public business contact details from the CSLB file. You are responsible for how you contact these businesses, including the TCPA, CAN-SPAM, the National Do Not Call Registry and California telemarketing rules.
- Public record published by the State of California. This actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CSLB.
FAQ
Is this the same as a CSLB lookup? No. A lookup checks one license number. This returns the whole set of licenses or policies coming due in a window, which is what a renewal campaign needs.
Why is a contractor with a CLEAR status on the list? Expiring soon is not the same as expired. Most rows are healthy licenses that simply renew this month.
Can I get contractors whose bond or policy was just cancelled? Use the companion California contractor bond and workers' comp lapse events actor by the same publisher.
