What it does not do:

• No full comment history. Each post page is fetched once and returns the 13 to 15 top-level preview comments Instagram shows to logged-out visitors (measured on the posts tested; the exact number can vary). Every post tested had more comments available than that, which Instagram only serves to logged-in sessions. If you need all 50,000 comments on a viral post, this is not the tool.
• No replies. Reply threads are not included in the preview batch, so nothing is returned for them.
• Private accounts and deleted posts return nothing.

Per comment, this is below Apify's official Instagram Comments Scraper on every plan tier, but compare what you get: this Actor returns only the preview batch per post, so check that is enough for your use case. The proxy cost is included here, nothing extra is billed. A post whose comments are disabled or that returns nothing does not generate comment charges. Use maxItems or a maximum total charge to cap any run.

How it works

Instagram embeds a batch of top-level comments in each public post page. This Actor fetches each post page once, the way a search-engine crawler does (Googlebot user agent), and extracts that batch. In usernames mode it first reads the account's profile page to discover its recent posts and Reels; that extra request is not billed separately.

• Proxy routing. With the default proxy setting, each page is tried first through Apify's free datacenter proxy (up to 3 fresh sessions) and only falls back to Apify's paid Unblocker proxy when those fail. The cost is included in the price. A custom proxy setting skips the free-first routing.
• No login is ever used. Only what a logged-out visitor can see.
• It can change. This depends on Instagram continuing to embed comments in the page it serves to crawlers. If that changes, output can degrade until the Actor is updated.

Can I export all comments on a post?

No. You get the roughly 13 to 15 top-level comments Instagram embeds in the public page. The rest require a login, which this Actor never uses.

Can I use it to pick giveaway winners?

Not reliably. A giveaway post can have thousands of entries and this Actor only sees the preview batch, so it cannot list all entrants.

Why not use the official Instagram Graph API?

The Graph API lets you read comments on media owned by a professional account that authorizes your app, with a Meta developer app and review. It does not cover comments on other people's posts. This Actor reads the visible comments of any public post.

Can I get comment replies?

No. Replies are not in the preview data the Actor reads.

What are the alternatives?
