Decode one VIN or a small batch of VINs using official NHTSA vPIC data. Optionally enrich each decoded vehicle with model-level recall campaigns and available NHTSA crash-test safety ratings.
No upstream API key is required.
Quick start
- Paste one VIN, or add up to 10 VINs in the list.
- Optionally enable recall campaigns and safety ratings.
- Click Start.
A valid Honda sample VIN is prefilled for the first run.
Example input
{"vin": "1HGCM82633A004352","modelYear": 2003,"includeRecallCampaigns": true,"includeSafetyRatings": false}
What you get
Depending on what the VIN encodes and what NHTSA reports, each dataset row can include:
- make, model, model year, trim and series,
- body / vehicle type,
- engine, fuel and drivetrain information,
- manufacturing and selected EV / ADAS fields,
- VIN decoding validation text,
- model-level recall campaigns,
- available crash-test vehicle variants and ratings.
Common workflows
- VIN decode: turn a VIN into structured vehicle specifications.
- Vehicle intake: enrich auction, dealer, service or fleet records.
- Recall context: add campaigns associated with the decoded year/make/model.
- Safety research: include available NHTSA crash-test ratings.
Pricing
$0.0015 per VIN result delivered to the default dataset (Pay per event).
API & automation
Use HTTP API, Python, JavaScript, CLI, OpenAPI or MCP. The API tab provides ready-to-copy examples. Public NHTSA mode is limited to 10 VINs per run.
Safety scope
Recall campaigns in this Actor are matched by decoded year / make / model. They are not a VIN-specific determination of currently unrepaired recalls. For a safety-critical decision, verify the VIN with the official NHTSA VIN recall lookup or the manufacturer.
For high-volume decoding, use the downloadable NHTSA vPIC standalone database rather than sending large query volumes to the public API.
Support
Use the Issues tab with the VIN (or a redacted example if needed) and run ID. Do not post account tokens or other secrets.
