Sec Edgar Company Financials
Fundamental financials for US-listed companies from SEC official data.sec.gov XBRL: revenue, net income, EPS, assets, cash, equity, operating cash flow with multi-year series, margins and ROE. The same filings data Bloomberg resells, via free official API. No login, no API key, no proxy.
SEC EDGAR Company Financials (XBRL) — Free Official API
Fundamental financials for US-listed companies straight from the SEC's official XBRL API (data.sec.gov) — the same filings data Bloomberg and CapitalIQ resell for thousands per seat. No login, no API key, no proxy.
What you get
One dataset record per ticker:
- Identity: ticker, CIK, company name, SIC code + industry description, exchanges, state of incorporation, fiscal year end
- Income: annual revenue and net income series (multi-year), latest quarterly EPS series
- Balance sheet: annual assets, cash & equivalents, stockholders' equity series
- Cash flow: annual operating cash flow series
- Computed ratios: net margin, ROE (from latest revenue/net income/equity)
- Link: direct EDGAR filings page
Values are normalized from raw XBRL facts: concept fallbacks (Revenues → RevenueFromContractWithCustomer… → SalesRevenueNet), 10-K/20-F annual filtering, full-year duration validation. Both us-gaap and ifrs-full taxonomies supported.
Use cases
- Screening: revenue/margin/ROE across a ticker basket in one call
- Quant pipelines: normalized fundamentals without a $25k terminal
- Enrichment: CIK/ticker → financial profile for any downstream model
- MCP/agents: clean JSON fundamentals an LLM can reason over
Input
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
tickers | List of tickers (default AAPL; any US-listed symbol in SEC's ticker file) |
historyPeriods | Annual periods per metric (default 8) |
maxResults | Cap companies per run (default 50) |
Notes
- Ticker → CIK via SEC's official
company_tickers.json(~10,400 companies). The actor fetches it live and falls back to a bundled snapshot if the SEC blocks the caller's IP, so runs never fail on it. - SEC fair-access limit is 10 req/s; the actor paces well below that with retry/backoff on 429/5xx.
- Non-US or non-filing companies may have sparse/
nullseries —nullmeans "not tagged in XBRL", not zero. - Dual-class issuers report EPS on their primary class, as filed. Example:
BRK-Breturns EPS ≈ 3,035 because Berkshire tagsEarningsPerShareDilutedper Class A share (~$700k) in its 10-Q — that is the official XBRL value, not an error. Same applies to other dual-class names (GOOG/GOOGL, FOX/FOXA…). Single-class tickers (AAPL, MSFT, TSLA, JPM…) are directly comparable. Divide by the class ratio if you need per-B-share EPS.
MCP/agent-friendly: flat JSON, stable field names, null for missing.
