SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper & Monitor: 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, Form 4 (No Key)

Get SEC EDGAR filings as clean JSON, CSV or Excel. Search the full text of every filing since 2001, or pull filings by ticker, CIK, form type, filing date, industry (SIC) and state. Each filing includes the company, tickers, CIK, form, filing and period dates, 8-K item numbers with plain-English names, and direct links to the primary document and filing index. Turn on monitor mode, schedule it, and get only the filings that are new since your last run.

Data comes from the official SEC EDGAR full-text search and ticker endpoints (the same ones that power sec.gov search). No API key, no login, and requests stay well under the SEC's fair-access rate limit.

For AI agents (MCP / API) quick reference

  • Use when: you need recent or historical SEC filings for companies, funds or insiders: 8-K material events, 10-K/10-Q reports, S-1/424B IPO filings, 13D/13G stakes, Form 4 insider trades, Form D private raises, or a full-text phrase search ("going concern", "material weakness", "cybersecurity incident").
  • Don't use for: XBRL financial statement numbers, stock prices, or non-US filings.
  • Minimal input: {"forms": ["8-K"], "filedLastDays": 1, "maxItems": 20} or {"tickers": ["AAPL"], "maxItems": 10}. All fields are optional.
  • Output: one dataset item per filing: accessionNumber, form, fileDate, periodEnding, companyName, ticker, cik, items, itemDescriptions, sicCodes, businessStates, primaryDocumentUrl, filingIndexUrl, matchedDocuments.
  • Price: $0.001 per run + $0.002 per filing. 20 filings cost about $0.04. Pay per event only, limited permissions, so agentic payments (x402, Skyfire, Apify AGI token) work.
  • MCP: add https://mcp.apify.com?tools=kempt_horizon_yzk/sec-edgar-filings to your MCP client.

What can this SEC EDGAR scraper do?

  • ✅ Full-text search across filings and exhibits since 2001, with exact phrases
  • ✅ Company filters: tickers (resolved with the SEC's official ticker list) or CIK numbers, including funds and private issuers
  • ✅ Form filters: 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, 424B4, SC 13D, 13F-HR, Form 4, Form D, DEF 14A and every other EDGAR form (amendments included)
  • ✅ Date, SIC industry and state filters
  • ✅ 8-K items decoded: 1.05 becomes "Material Cybersecurity Incidents", 5.02 becomes "Departure/Election of Directors or Officers"
  • ✅ Monitor mode: remembers filings in a key-value store and returns only new or changed ones, perfect for a Slack, email or Zapier alert
  • ✅ Pay only for results: filings removed by your filters are never charged
  • ✅ Retries with exponential backoff and polite rate limiting

Who uses it?

Hedge funds and equity analysts watching 8-Ks, investor relations and competitive intelligence teams, M&A and IPO researchers, compliance and risk teams screening for going-concern or cybersecurity disclosures, fintech apps and newsletters, and AI agents that need fresh filings.

How much does it cost?

A daily monitor that finds 50 new 8-Ks in your sector costs about $0.10 a day. 1,000 filings cost $2. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops cleanly when it gets there.

  2. Add tickers, a full-text phrase, form types, SIC prefixes or states.
  3. Click Start and download results as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them with the API.
  4. For alerts, tick Only new since last run, give the monitor a name, and add a Schedule. Connect Slack, email, Zapier, Make or a webhook through Apify integrations.

FAQ

Do I need an SEC API key? No. EDGAR is free and public. You can optionally add a contact email, which the SEC fair-access policy recommends, to the User-Agent.

How fresh is the data? Live. Filings show up within minutes of being accepted by EDGAR.

How far back can I search? Full-text search covers 2001 to today. One run can page through up to 10,000 search results; narrow the dates for more.

Is this legal? EDGAR filings are public US government records. The Actor uses official endpoints, honors robots.txt and stays far below the SEC's 10 requests per second limit.

Related Actors: USAspending.gov Federal Awards for government contract revenue, and Federal Register Scraper for new regulations.
