Maintenance & reliability pass — re-verified end-to-end against live data via the Apify API; confirmed the Actor completes successfully and returns non-empty, well-formed results within the 5-minute quality window on its default input.
Refreshed build so the latest version is current; no change to inputs, output fields or scraping logic.

Empty input now returns data. Removed the guard that exited early when no search/filter was given. With empty input {} the Actor now browses the most popular records (works sorted by citations, authors/institutions/sources sorted by works count), bounded by maxResults.
Numbers are real numbers. publication_year, cited_by_count, works_count and referenced_works_count are now emitted as numeric values instead of strings. is_oa is now a real boolean (added for works via open_access.is_oa).
New sort dropdown (select) with human-readable options (most cited, most works, newest/oldest, best relevance); defaults to Auto.
AUTO proxy. Uses automatic Apify Proxy and falls back to a direct connection on the final retry (OpenAlex is a public API).
Time budget. Long paginations stop after ~4 minutes, push what was collected, and exit successfully.
Page-limit guard for authors/institutions/sources (OpenAlex caps page-based pagination at 10,000 results).
Added per-field fields JSON-schema (titles + descriptions) to the dataset schema and set the is_oa view format to boolean.
