OpenStreetMap Places Scraper
Businesses and places for any area in the world, pulled from OpenStreetMap.
Type a place name. The Actor finds the area for you, queries the map, and returns clean rows: name, category, full address, phone, website, opening hours and coordinates.
Why OpenStreetMap
Map data from OpenStreetMap is published under the Open Database Licence. You
may keep it, build on it and redistribute it, as long as you credit the source.
Every row carries that credit in the attribution field.
What you get
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
name / nameEn | Place name, plus the English name where mapped |
placeType | cafe, restaurant, hotel, pharmacy and so on |
cuisine / brand / operator | Extra detail where the map has it |
addressFull / city / street / housenumber / postcode | Address, split and combined |
phone / website / email | Contact details |
openingHours | Opening hours as mapped |
wheelchair / takeaway / outdoorSeating | Accessibility and service flags |
latitude / longitude | Coordinates |
osmId / osmUrl | Stable identifier and link to the map entry |
attribution | Required credit line |
Example input
{"places": ["Gangnam-gu, Seoul", "Shibuya, Tokyo"],"categories": ["cafe", "restaurant", "shop=bakery"],"maxResultsPerPlace": 500}
Categories are OpenStreetMap tags. A bare word means amenity, so cafe is
amenity=cafe. You can also write shop=bakery, tourism=hotel,
leisure=fitness_centre, office=company, healthcare=pharmacy.
What people use it for
- Lead lists - every bakery in a district, with phone and website
- Market and site research - how many competitors already sit in an area
- Travel and directory products - a starting catalogue you are allowed to publish
- Enrichment - match your own records against stable OSM identifiers
Pricing
Pay per result. You are charged only for places actually returned.
Coverage - measured, not promised
OpenStreetMap is volunteer-mapped, so how much detail you get depends on where you look. Two runs of 300 cafes, measured:
| Field | Kreuzberg, Berlin | Gangnam-gu, Seoul |
|---|---|---|
| Name | 100% | 100% |
| Address | 71% | 22% |
| Opening hours | 68% | 12% |
| Website | 41% | 19% |
| Phone | 27% | 7% |
Western European and North American cities are mapped in far more detail than most of Asia. If you need contact details at scale, check a small run for your target city first.
Notes
- Fields such as
phoneare present only where someone mapped them. - Unnamed map entries are skipped by default. Turn off "Only named places" to include everything tagged.
- Several map servers are tried in turn, so one busy server does not fail a run.
- You must keep the attribution when you publish results: © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL.
