Michigan Contractor License Lookup searches the Michigan LARA public licensee lookup and returns each contractor or builder license's number, type, status, issue date, expiration date and official detail page. It is built for general contractors vetting subcontractors, property managers, insurers, lenders and permit offices, and costs USD 10 per 1,000 license records on the FREE tier (USD 8 per 1,000 on GOLD).
You search by license number, business name or licensee name, the same way a visitor uses LARA's public lookup. No account, login or cookies are needed, and the Actor never bypasses CAPTCHAs or other access controls.
What does the Michigan Contractor License Lookup return?
Each dataset row is one LARA license record, deduplicated by license type and license number.
| Field | What it contains |
|---|---|
licenseeName | Person or organization named on the LARA detail page |
businessName | Business name when LARA shows one, otherwise null |
licenseNumber | Michigan license number, for example 2101209706 |
licenseType | LARA credential category, for example Residential Builder Individual |
licenseStatus | Status text exactly as LARA shows it, for example Issued |
isActive | true or false for recognized status labels, null when the label is blank or unrecognized |
issueDate, expirationDate | Dates normalized to YYYY-MM-DD when parseable |
sourceUrl | Direct link to the public LARA license detail page |
sourceSearchUrl | The LARA public licensee search page |
recordId, scrapedAt | Stable type:number identity and UTC retrieval time |
The dataset intentionally leaves out street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. The OUTPUT record shows the outcome (DATA, EMPTY, BLOCKED, REJECTED or FAILED), records returned, source matches, whether LARA has more matches than were read, warnings and charged events. It does not repeat the name or number you searched.
How do I look up a contractor's license in Michigan?
Choose LICENSE_NUMBER, enter the number and pick the matching license type. The Actor returns LARA's current status, issue date and expiration date in one row.
{"searchMode": "LICENSE_NUMBER","licenseNumber": "2101209706","licenseType": "Residential Builder Individual","maxResults": 1}
This Console default returned one Issued residential builder license, expiring 2027-05-31, in about 3 seconds on 2026-10-26. The license type matters: an individual Residential Builder license and a Residential Builder Company license are separate LARA categories, so select the type the contractor gave you.
Can I search LARA by business name or person name?
Yes. Use BUSINESS_NAME with part of the company name, or PERSON_NAME with a last name and an optional first name. Both read LARA's first results page and return up to 10 records.
{"searchMode": "BUSINESS_NAME","businessName": "Northstar Builders","licenseType": "Residential Builder Company","maxResults": 10}
{"searchMode": "PERSON_NAME","firstName": "Jordan","lastName": "Example","licenseType": "Mechanical Contractor","maxResults": 10}
When LARA reports more matches than the Actor read, OUTPUT.hasMoreSourceResults is true. Narrow the name, or switch to the exact license number.
Which Michigan license types are covered?
The Michigan builders license lookup covers the 16 contractor and builder categories in LARA's public lookup:
- Residential Builder (Individual, Company, Branch Office) and Maintenance & Alteration (Individual, Company), including the temporary military-spouse variants
- Electrical Contractor, Electrical Fire Alarm Contractor, Electrical Sign Contractor and the registered fire-alarm and sign variants
- Mechanical Contractor, Plumbing Contractor and Elevator Contractor
- Manufactured Home Installer/Servicer
Apprentice, journeyman and unrelated professional licenses (nursing, real estate, cosmetology) are not included.
When should I use it, and when not?
Use it when you need a Michigan general contractor license search inside a workflow: subcontractor prequalification, permit intake, insurance or lending checks, or confirming that a builder's license is current before a contract is signed.
Use another Actor when:
- You need contractor contact details for sales research: Contractor License Leads.
- You need another state: Louisiana Contractor License Lookup, Tennessee Contractor License Lookup, Nevada Contractor License Lookup or North Carolina Contractor License Lookup.
- You need a LARA-certified verification letter. That is a separate state service; this Actor reports the public lookup result only.

What does the output look like?
The first record is from the 2026-10-26 default run, with the licensee's name replaced by a placeholder. The second shows a company record's shape with illustrative values.

Pricing: how much does a Michigan license check cost?
The Actor uses pay-per-event pricing. Platform usage is included in the event prices, and the Actor never charges events manually.
| Event | FREE | BRONZE | SILVER | GOLD / PLATINUM / DIAMOND |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michigan contractor license record (one dataset row) | USD 0.010 | USD 0.00975 | USD 0.0095 | USD 0.008 |
| Actor start (per started GB of allocated memory) | USD 0.005 | USD 0.005 | USD 0.005 | USD 0.005 |
Worked totals on the FREE tier at the default 256 MB memory (one start event):
- One license check: 1 × USD 0.010 + USD 0.005 = USD 0.015
- Maximum run, 10 records: 10 × USD 0.010 + USD 0.005 = USD 0.105
A search with no matches charges only the start fee. The minimum total-charge limit is USD 0.015; when your limit has no room for another record, the run stops before writing it.
What are the limits?
- 10 records per run, and name searches read only LARA's first results page.
- One license type per run. Run again for a different category.
- Speed: one search plus one detail page per record, with short pauses between requests; a single check took about 3 seconds.
- Freshness: LARA states its public data is updated once a day and may not be accurate, current or complete. Open
sourceUrlbefore a consequential decision. - Blocked or changed pages end as
BLOCKEDorFAILEDwith diagnostics; the Actor never fills gaps with invented records.
FAQ
Is this an official LARA verification?
No. It reads LARA's public licensee lookup and links every row to the official detail page. It is independent of the State of Michigan and LARA, and it does not issue a certified verification.
How do I check a Michigan license status?
Run a LICENSE_NUMBER search with the matching license type. licenseStatus shows LARA's exact wording, and isActive gives a conservative true/false reading.
Can I do a LARA license lookup by name?
Yes. PERSON_NAME needs a last name and accepts an optional first name; BUSINESS_NAME accepts part of a company name. Both return up to 10 records from the first results page.
Does it return phone numbers or addresses?
No. The dataset omits contact fields by design. Contractor License Leads returns licensed US contractors with contact and registry data.
Why did I get no records?
The number, name or license type did not match a LARA record. The license type must match exactly; a company license will not appear under the individual category.
Does it cover Michigan business entity filings?
No. Corporation and LLC filings live in a separate LARA business registry. This Actor covers contractor and builder licenses only.
How do I check many licenses?
Call the Actor once per license number from a script, an Apify schedule or an AI agent. Each check costs about USD 0.015 on the FREE tier.

Legal and compliance
Michigan Contractor License Lookup reads public LARA license pages without logging in. Records can name individuals, so use them only for lawful licensing verification or related business purposes, follow applicable privacy rules and the source's terms, and confirm current licensure with LARA before relying on a record.
