NESO Open Data Scraper

Searches the National Energy System Operator open data portal — the GB electricity system's CKAN catalogue — for datasets on carbon intensity, demand, generation mix, constraints and balancing, with direct download links. No login, no proxy, no browser.

Input

FieldTypeNotes
querystringFree-text search. Empty lists the whole catalogue. Default carbon intensity.
maxItemsintegerCap on datasets. Default 50.
includeResourcesbooleanList each dataset's files. Default true.

Output

One row per dataset: title, name, description, organization, tags, license, resourceCount, formats, created, lastModified, url, and resources (name, format, url, lastModified, sizeBytes) when requested.

Notes

  • Dataset descriptions contain raw HTML. CKAN stores notes with <br/> tags and HTML entities, which land as literal markup in a spreadsheet unless stripped, so they are cleaned to plain text here.
  • format is inconsistently cased across the catalogue — CSV and csv both appear — so formats are upper-cased before deduplication.
  • A file that has never been edited has created but no last_modified; the two are collapsed into one lastModified field.
  • The resources[].url values are direct downloads, so this Actor doubles as a way to find the CSV endpoint for a NESO dataset without opening the portal.
  • CKAN caps rows at 100 per request, so a larger maxItems walks pages via start.
