VIN Decoder
Decodes Vehicle Identification Numbers into make, model, year, body class, plant and engine details through the official NHTSA vPIC API. No login, no proxy, no browser.
Input
| Field | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
vins | array | Required. 17-character VINs to decode. |
Output
One row per VIN: vin, modelYear, make, model, manufacturer,
vehicleType, bodyClass, doors, driveType, engineCylinders,
displacementL, engineHP, fuelTypePrimary, transmissionStyle,
plantCity, plantState, plantCountry, series, trim,
decodedCleanly, errorCode, errorText.
Notes
- A bad VIN is not an HTTP error. vPIC answers an unusable VIN with HTTP
200, an empty
Make, and anErrorCodelisting what went wrong. Rows therefore carrydecodedCleanlyplus the rawerrorCode/errorTextrather than being silently dropped — a partially decoded VIN still tells you the manufacturer and country. ErrorCodeis a comma-separated list, and0means clean. It is matched exactly rather than by substring, so codes like400or10are not mistaken for success.- vPIC returns roughly 140 fields per VIN, most empty for any given vehicle.
This Actor keeps the commonly useful subset and maps the empty strings it
uses for absent values to
null.
