Space Weather Scraper
Pulls planetary K-index geomagnetic activity from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, with derived G-scale storm levels. No login, no proxy, no browser.
Input
| Field | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
maxItems | integer | Cap on readings, most recent first. Default 100. |
stormsOnly | boolean | Only readings at Kp 5 or above. Default false. |
Output
One row per reading: observedAt, kpIndex, estimatedKp, kpLabel,
stormLevel, stormDescription, isStorm.
Notes
- Kp 5 is the storm threshold. Below it there is no geomagnetic storm at
all, which is why
stormLevelisnullrather than aG0that does not exist. The G-scale runs G1 (Minor) to G5 (Extreme). - NOAA's
time_tagcarries no timezone designator even though the values are UTC. AZis appended so the timestamp parses correctly instead of being read as local time. - NOAA publishes a rolling window of roughly the last few hours at one-minute cadence, newest last; rows are reversed so the newest comes first.
- With
stormsOnlyset, a quiet period legitimately matches nothing and the run fails rather than writing an empty dataset — which is the common case, since most days are quiet.
