Reddit Post Search — Search Public Reddit Posts

Search public Reddit posts by keyword across all of Reddit or within a specific subreddit. The Actor reads Reddit’s lightweight public Atom search feeds and retries through fresh Apify proxy sessions when Reddit blocks an address.

Input

FieldTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
searchQuerystringYesKeywords to search for
maxResultsintegerNo25Maximum records to return, up to 100
sortBystringNorelevanceReddit search order such as relevance, new, top, or comments
subredditstringNoemptySubreddit name, with or without r/
timeFilterstringNoallhour, day, week, month, year, or all
proxyConfigurationobjectNoApify ProxyProxy settings used for retry sessions

Output

Each dataset record contains:

  • id
  • title
  • subreddit
  • author
  • score
  • numComments
  • permalink
  • url
  • createdUtc
  • isSelf
  • isVideo
  • selftext
  • linkFlairText
  • upvoteRatio
  • nsfw

Reddit’s Atom feeds expose titles, authors, links, timestamps, and HTML content, but not all fields available through Reddit’s authenticated API. score, numComments, upvoteRatio, linkFlairText, isVideo, and nsfw therefore use compatibility defaults when the feed omits them.

Example

{
"searchQuery": "python packaging",
"maxResults": 10,
"sortBy": "new",
"subreddit": "r/python",
"timeFilter": "month"
}

Operational notes

  • Reddit can block individual addresses. The Actor tries a direct request first and then rotates proxy sessions.
  • The Actor fails the run rather than silently returning success when every feed attempt is blocked or malformed.
  • Results reflect metadata published in Reddit’s public Atom feeds.
  • Use conservative result limits and comply with Reddit’s terms and applicable law.
