NOAA Weather Scraper
Scrape NOAA Weather data for alerts, forecasts, observations, and stations across any US location. Get active weather alerts, daily and hourly forecasts, current temperature and wind readings, and station metadata. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.
NOAA's National Weather Service provides the authoritative weather data for the United States, but pulling it into your own systems means parsing multiple API endpoints and data formats. This Actor reads active alerts, forecasts, current observations, and weather station information directly from NOAA's public feeds and returns every record in one consistent flat schema. No API key, no registration, and no rate-limit headaches.
| Who uses it | What they scrape NOAA Weather for |
|---|---|
| Emergency managers | Monitor active weather alerts by state to trigger response workflows. |
| Logistics planners | Pull current observations and forecasts along routes to anticipate weather delays. |
| Insurance underwriters | Gather historical station data and alert records for location risk assessment. |
| Agricultural analysts | Collect forecast and observation data for crop planning and frost alerts. |
| Data journalists | Download weather alert datasets to report on severe weather patterns. |
What it does
This Actor collects NOAA weather data by mode (alerts, forecast, observations, or stations) and returns each record as a flat row with a fixed schema.
- ⚠️ Active Weather Alerts: watches, warnings, and advisories for any US state, with event type, severity, and expiration.
- 🌤️ Weather Forecast: daily and hourly forecasts by latitude and longitude, including temperature, precipitation chance, and wind.
- 🌡️ Current Observations: real-time temperature, humidity, wind speed, barometric pressure, and visibility from NOAA stations.
- 📍 Weather Stations: station metadata including ID, name, coordinates, and elevation for any US state.
Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.
What you can do with NOAA Weather data
⚠️ Monitor severe weather alerts by state.
An emergency operations center runs the Actor in alerts mode for their state every 15 minutes and pushes new warnings into a Slack channel for the duty officer.
🚚 Check forecast conditions along a delivery route.
A logistics dispatcher feeds a list of waypoint coordinates into the forecast mode and reviews temperature and wind data to decide whether to delay high-profile loads.
📊 Build a historical weather dataset for underwriting.
An insurance analyst runs the observations mode for a set of station coordinates and collects months of temperature and precipitation data to feed a location risk model.
🌾 Plan planting around frost and precipitation forecasts.
An agronomist pulls daily forecasts for farm coordinates and exports the minimum temperature and precipitation chance fields to a spreadsheet that flags frost-risk days.
Why choose this scraper
| What you get | |
|---|---|
| No API key required | Reads NOAA's public data feeds directly with no registration or authentication. |
| Four modes in one Actor | Switch between alerts, forecasts, observations, and stations without changing tools. |
| Flat, consistent output | Every record arrives in the same schema regardless of mode, ready for analysis. |
| Up to one million records | Pull large datasets in a single run for historical analysis or bulk processing. |
How it compares
This Actor covers four distinct NOAA data modes (alerts, forecasts, observations, and stations) in one tool, while the Noaa Weather Forecast Scraper focuses on forecasts and alerts only.
| Feature | ParseForge | Noaa Weather Forecast Scraper |
|---|---|---|
| Active weather alerts by state | Yes | Yes |
| Daily and hourly forecasts | Yes | Yes |
| Current observations (temperature, wind, humidity) | Yes | Not listed |
| Weather station metadata | Yes | Not listed |
| Up to 1,000,000 records per run | Yes | Not listed |
Configure the run
Drive the Actor by selecting a mode and providing a US state code for alerts or stations, or latitude and longitude for forecasts and observations, and set a maximum record count so only the data you need reaches your dataset. The Input tab lists every parameter.
A first run with the defaults:
{"mode": "alerts","maxItems": 10,"state": "CA"}
A larger pull:
{"mode": "alerts","maxItems": 200,"state": "CA"}

Free users
Free-plan runs return up to 10 results as a preview. Upgrade your Apify plan to collect up to 1,000,000 results per run.
Run it
- Create a free Apify account with $5 in credit.
- Open the NOAA Weather Scraper.
- Set your inputs and any filters, then click Start.
- Export the results as CSV, Excel, JSON, or XML from the Dataset tab.
Run it programmatically through the Apify API (run-sync-get-dataset-items) or the ApifyClient for JavaScript and Python.
Use with AI agents (MCP)
Give an AI agent live access to NOAA Weather through the Model Context Protocol. Add the Actor to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client:
$claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=parseforge/noaa-weather-scraper"
Then prompt it in plain language to run the scraper and read back the results.
Troubleshooting
Why am I getting no results for my state?
Check that you entered a valid two-letter US state code (e.g., TX, CA, NY) in uppercase. Also verify that the mode you selected supports state input. Forecast and observations modes require latitude and longitude instead of a state code.
The forecast data looks different from what I see on weather.gov.
NOAA updates its forecast grids on a regular cycle. The Actor pulls the latest available forecast at the moment it runs. If the forecast was recently updated on the website, wait a few minutes and run the Actor again.
I am getting fewer records than my maxItems setting.
The Actor returns only the data that exists at the time of the run. If there are fewer active alerts in your state than your maxItems value, you will receive all available alerts and the run will finish with fewer records.
The Actor fails when I enter coordinates.
Ensure you are entering numeric values for both latitude and longitude. Use decimal format (e.g., 38.8894, not 38° 53' 21" N). Also confirm the coordinates are within NOAA's coverage area for the United States.
Why are some observation fields empty?
Not every NOAA weather station reports every measurement. Some stations may lack barometric pressure, visibility, or other sensors. Empty fields in the output mean that particular station did not report that measurement at the time of collection.
FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need a NOAA API key to use this Actor? | No. This Actor reads NOAA's public National Weather Service API endpoints, which are open and require no registration or authentication. |
| What weather data can I scrape with this Actor? | You can scrape active weather alerts, daily and hourly forecasts, current observations (temperature, wind, humidity, pressure), and weather station metadata for any US state or coordinate pair. |
| How do I get weather alerts for my state? | Set the mode to 'Active Weather Alerts' and enter your two-letter US state code in the State field. The Actor returns every active watch, warning, and advisory for that state. |
| Can I get a forecast for a specific location? | Yes. Set the mode to 'Weather Forecast' and provide the latitude and longitude of your location. The Actor returns both daily and hourly forecast periods. |
| What is the difference between observations and forecast mode? | Observations mode returns current measured conditions from NOAA weather stations. Forecast mode returns predicted conditions for future time periods from NOAA's weather models. |
| How many weather records can I collect in one run? | You can set the maximum records from 1 up to 1,000,000 per run. The Actor stops collecting once it reaches your limit. |
| What export formats are supported? | The Actor outputs data in CSV, JSON, Excel, and XML formats through the Apify platform's standard dataset export options. |
| Does this cover locations outside the United States? | NOAA's National Weather Service covers the United States, its territories, and adjacent waters. The Actor does not provide weather data for international locations outside NOAA's coverage area. |
| Can I run this on a schedule? | Yes. You can configure an Apify schedule to run the Actor at any interval, such as every 15 minutes for alerts or every 6 hours for forecasts. |
| How do I find the coordinates for forecast mode? | You can use any geocoding service or map tool to get the latitude and longitude of your location, then enter those values in the Actor's input fields. |
