Start.gg Tournaments Scraper
Scrape Start.gg tournaments by game, country, or upcoming status, up to a million per run. Each tournament comes with its name, date, location, game, and event details. No API key required. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.
Finding upcoming esports tournaments across different games and regions is tedious when you have to click through Start.gg's web interface page by page. This scraper reads the public tournament listings directly, letting you filter by game title, country code, or upcoming status, and returns every match in a consistent, flat schema. Build your own tournament calendar, track the competitive scene for a specific title, or monitor regional event density without manual browsing.
| Who uses it | What they scrape Start.gg for |
|---|---|
| Esports journalists | Building a weekly calendar of upcoming tournaments for a specific fighting game. |
| Tournament organizers | Monitoring competitor events in their region to avoid date conflicts. |
| Data analysts | Tracking the growth of a game's competitive scene by counting tournaments per month. |
| Event discovery platforms | Aggregating upcoming gaming events for a community website or app. |
What it does
This Actor collects Start.gg tournament listings filtered by game, country, and upcoming status, and returns each tournament as a flat row.
- ๐ฎ Game filter: narrow results to a specific title like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Street Fighter 6.
- ๐ Country filter: restrict tournaments to a single country using its ISO code, such as US, JP, or FR.
- ๐ Upcoming toggle: choose to see only upcoming tournaments or include past events as well.
- ๐ข Volume control: set a hard cap on the number of tournaments returned, from a single test row up to one million.
Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.
What you can do with Start.gg data
๐ Build a tournament calendar.
An esports journalist runs the scraper weekly for 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' with the upcoming toggle on to populate a community events calendar.
๐ Monitor regional scenes.
A tournament organizer sets the country code to 'FR' and the game to 'Street Fighter 6' to see all upcoming French events and avoid scheduling conflicts.
๐ Track competitive growth.
A data analyst collects all tournaments for a new fighting game over six months to measure month-over-month growth in the competitive scene.
๐ Discover new events.
An event discovery platform scrapes all upcoming tournaments across multiple games to feed a 'nearby events' feature on their website.

Troubleshooting
I'm getting no results even though I know tournaments exist.
Check your Game filter spelling. It must match the exact game name as written on Start.gg. Also verify your Country code is a valid two-letter ISO code. Try running with all filters empty to confirm the scraper works, then add filters back one at a time.
The scraper returns fewer tournaments than my maximum limit.
This is expected when there are not enough tournaments matching your filters. Start.gg may only list a limited number of upcoming tournaments for a niche game or small country. Try broadening your filters or unchecking 'Upcoming only' to include past events.
The game filter is not returning the right tournaments.
Game names on Start.gg can vary slightly. Try a partial name or check the exact spelling on the Start.gg website. For example, 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' includes the period after 'Bros'.
My run times out before reaching the maximum tournaments.
Lower your Maximum tournaments value or increase the run timeout in your Apify actor settings. Very large runs may need more time depending on Start.gg's response speed.
FAQ
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need a Start.gg account or API key? | No. This scraper reads the public tournament listing pages, so no login, account, or API key is required. |
| Can I filter by a specific game? | Yes. Use the Game input field to specify a title like 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' or 'Street Fighter 6'. The filter matches the game name as it appears on Start.gg. |
| How do I filter by country? | Enter a two-letter ISO country code in the Country code field, such as US for the United States, JP for Japan, or FR for France. |
| Can I get past tournaments instead of upcoming ones? | Yes. Uncheck the 'Upcoming only' toggle to include tournaments that have already taken place. |
| How many tournaments can I collect in one run? | You can set the Maximum tournaments field anywhere from 1 to 1,000,000. The scraper stops once it reaches your limit. |
| What format is the output data in? | The dataset can be exported in CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML format from your Apify run. |
| Does this scraper get event details like brackets and entrants? | It collects the tournament listing data visible on the search and browse pages, which includes name, date, location, and game. For deeper event details, you would need a separate scraper targeting individual tournament pages. |
| Can I run this on a schedule? | Yes. Apify supports scheduled runs, so you can set this scraper to run daily or weekly to keep your tournament data fresh. |
| What if I leave all filters empty? | If you leave Game and Country blank and set Upcoming only to true, the scraper collects the most recent upcoming tournaments across all games and regions, up to your maximum limit. |
