🚀 Reddit Scraper: Reddit API Alternative for Posts, Comments and Search
Export Reddit data as clean JSON, CSV or Excel without an API key or account: subreddit posts, keyword search results, full comment threads and user profiles, with titles, text, scores, upvote ratios, comment counts, flair, media links, authors and timestamps. The Reddit Scraper works as a pay-per-result Reddit API alternative: scrape Reddit for any subreddit or search term and get the data in minutes.
🎯 Use Cases
- Reddit API alternative: get posts and comments as structured data without applying for API access, managing OAuth tokens or paying Reddit API pricing for a fixed plan.
- Brand and product monitoring: search Reddit for your brand, product or competitors every day and catch new threads early.
- Market and audience research: pull the top posts of a subreddit (r/SaaS, r/startups, r/personalfinance...) to see what people ask, complain about and recommend.
- Reddit data for AI and NLP: build datasets of posts and comment threads for sentiment analysis, topic modelling or LLM training and retrieval.
- Content and trend research: find the most upvoted and most discussed posts for a keyword or community this week, month or year.
✨ Features
- Subreddit scraper: new, hot, top, rising or controversial posts of any community, with a time range for Top and Controversial.
- Reddit search: keyword search across all of Reddit or inside one subreddit, sorted by relevance, new, top, hot or most comments.
- Comment threads: comments of any post with author, score, depth, parent and timestamps, best first, including "load more" branches.
- User profiles: karma, account age and a user's posts or comments.
- Media: image, gallery and video URLs, thumbnails and outbound link URLs.
- Incremental runs: a Posted after date, so scheduled runs only fetch what is new.
- No duplicates: a post found by several start URLs or queries is saved and charged once.
- No login: works on public communities without a Reddit account.
🛠️ How It Works
- Add start URLs: subreddits (
https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/or justr/SaaS), posts, user profiles or search result pages. Or type search queries to search all of Reddit. - Pick sort, time range and limits: Max posts per URL or query and, optionally, Max comments per post to include threads.
- Run the scraper and download the results, or read them through the Apify API.
⚙️ Input
| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
Start URLs (startUrls) | Subreddits, posts, user profiles (/user/name/ for posts, /user/name/comments/ for comments) or search pages. Empty input scrapes r/SaaS. | r/SaaS |
Search queries (searchQueries) | Keywords to search across all of Reddit, one per line. | empty |
Sort by (sort) | new, hot, top, rising, controversial, relevance or comments. A sort in the URL wins. | new |
Time range (time) | all, year, month, week, day or hour, for Top, Controversial and searches. | all |
Max posts (maxPosts) | Posts per start URL or query (comments for a user's comments tab). | 50 |
Max comments per post (maxCommentsPerPost) | 0 = posts only. Otherwise each post is saved with up to this many comments. | 0 |
Include NSFW posts (includeNsfw) | Keep posts marked 18+. | off |
Posted after (postedAfter) | Optional date (YYYY-MM-DD). Older posts are skipped. | empty |
{"startUrls": ["https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/top/?t=week", "u/spez"],"searchQueries": ["notion vs obsidian"],"maxPosts": 100,"maxCommentsPerPost": 20}
How much can I get? A subreddit feed lists up to about 1,000 posts per sort (Rising shows about 25). A user profile gives the profile plus up to about 1,000 posts or comments. A search lists about 250 posts per sort order; asking for more adds other sort orders and narrower time ranges (never wider than yours), so popular keywords go well past 1,000 unique posts. Comments load best first, up to Max comments per post. When a source runs out before your limit, the run's status message says so.
💰 Pricing
Pay only for what you extract. No monthly plan.
| Event | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Post | $0.002 per post ($2.00 per 1,000) | One post with text, score, upvote ratio, comment count, flair, media |
| Comment | $0.001 per comment ($1.00 per 1,000) | One comment with text, score, depth, parent and author |
| User profile | $0.002 per user | One profile with karma, account age and flags |
| Actor start | $0.00005 per run | Charged once when the run starts. |
Examples: 1,000 posts = $2.00 · 500 posts with 20 comments each = $1.00 + $10.00 = $11.00 · a daily brand search of 50 posts = $0.10. Removed posts and comments that do not load are skipped and not charged.
📊 Sample Output Data
A post from r/wallstreetbets:
{"type": "post","id": "1xh6frd","url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/1xh6frd/spy_0dte_171_4k_to_10k/","title": "SPY 0DTE +171% 4k to 10k","text": "Love this market.","author": "SuperOrbital_Trading","authorId": "t2_2nq0rvp8cn","subreddit": "wallstreetbets","subredditId": "t5_2th52","score": 213,"upvoteRatio": 0.8509933774834437,"numComments": 77,"awards": 0,"createdAt": "2026-10-27T22:10:00.824Z","flair": "Gain","postType": "multi_media","language": "en","isNsfw": false,"isSpoiler": false,"isArchived": false,"isCrosspost": false,"domain": "self.wallstreetbets","linkUrl": null,"thumbnail": null,"images": [],"videoUrl": null,"source": "https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/","scrapedAt": "2026-10-28T12:48:55.009Z"}
source is the start URL or query the row came from, so multi-target runs stay easy to split; search results also carry query, searchSort and searchTime. flair is empty in communities that don't use flair, and images, videoUrl and linkUrl are filled only for media and link posts. Comments are saved as type: "comment" rows with depth and parentId.
🔁 Schedule and Integrate
For brand monitoring, run a search once a day with Posted after set to yesterday, or scrape a subreddit's new feed every few hours: each run then returns only fresh posts. Set it up with Apify Schedules, and send the results to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n, Slack or your own webhook through Apify integrations.
🤖 Use with AI Agents (MCP)
The Reddit Scraper works as a tool in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients through the Apify MCP server (https://mcp.apify.com). An agent can call it with:
{ "searchQueries": ["best crm for startups"], "sort": "top", "time": "year", "maxPosts": 25 }
❓ FAQ
Does Reddit have an official API? Is this a Reddit API alternative? Yes, Reddit has an official Data API, but it needs an approved app, OAuth tokens and rate-limit handling, and since 2023 commercial and high-volume use is priced by Reddit. This scraper is a practical alternative for public data: no app approval or key, you pay per post or comment you get, and the output is already structured.
How much does the Reddit API cost compared to this scraper? Reddit's own API pricing is set by Reddit and applies to commercial use. Here you pay $0.002 per post and $0.001 per comment, with no subscription, so 10,000 posts cost $20.
Can I scrape Reddit search results and comments? Yes. Add Search queries (or a Reddit search URL) and set Max comments per post to include each post's comment thread.
Do I need a Reddit account or login? No. Public subreddits, posts, searches and profiles work without an account. 18+, quarantined and private communities need a logged-in account and are reported as not available.
Why are some fields empty?
Search results carry the post text but no upvote ratio, flair or media list; turn on comments (Max comments per post ≥ 1) to load each post's full details. Comments on a user's comments tab have no depth or parentId. Reddit no longer shows some fields to logged-out visitors (subscriber counts, crosspost counts, edit time, locked or stickied flags).
How far back can I scrape a subreddit? A feed lists about 1,000 posts per sort. Use Top with a time range, or searches inside the subreddit, to reach older posts.
