Norway Company Register Search - Brreg Enhetsregisteret

Export the Norwegian company register as a spreadsheet: over 1.17 million entities from Brreg, filtered by municipality, industry, size, registration date or bankruptcy status — with the email and phone the companies filed themselves.

This Actor reads the official open-data API of Brønnøysundregistrene (data.brreg.no), the Norwegian state register. No API key, no login, no scraping of a rendered page: what you export is the register.

Most company databases sell you Norway as a static dump that is months old. The Norway Company Register Search Actor queries the live register, so a filter on "registered after last Monday" returns companies that were registered after last Monday.

What you get

Every row is one entity, with 37 fields:

• Organisation number (nine digits) and the registered name, plus any previous names
• Email and phone, as filed by the company itself. Coverage grows sharply with size — measured on 2026-08-28: 14% of limited companies overall carry an email, 45% of those with 10+ employees, and 57% of those with 50+. Phone runs 7% / 43% / 67% across the same three groups. Below 10 employees, treat contact data as a bonus, not as the reason to run this.
• Registration date and founding date — the basis for tracking newly registered businesses
• Legal form, both code and Norwegian description: AS (limited), ASA (public limited), ENK (sole proprietorship), NUF (Norwegian branch of a foreign company), SA (cooperative), STI (foundation)
• Industry code in Norwegian SN form, up to three codes plus the auxiliary-unit code, each with a readable Norwegian label
• Employee count and share capital where filed, and the year of the most recent annual accounts
• Full business address — street, postal code, city, municipality and four-digit municipality code
• Status flags the register maintains: bankrupt, winding up, forced liquidation, VAT-registered, listed in the Register of Business Enterprises, listed in the Register of Non-profit Organisations, part of a corporate group
• A link to the official Brreg page for the entity, and the source attribution

Industry codes: Norwegian codes are five digits, not four

This trips up everyone arriving from EU NACE. The register matches naeringskode as a plain text prefix on the dotted code, and Norwegian codes have five digits:

A code that no entity uses returns zero rather than an error, so this Actor logs an explicit warning naming the code when that happens, instead of finishing quietly with an empty dataset.

The filter also matches an entity's secondary and auxiliary codes, not only its primary one. That is why a row can come back with an unrelated industryCode: check industryCode2, industryCode3 and auxiliaryIndustryCode and the match will be there.

Municipality: the filter matches either address

A company can have its business address in one municipality and its postal address in another, and kommunenummer matches either. A search for Oslo (0301) legitimately returns ABEL TECHNOLOGIES AS, whose office is in Tromsø but whose post goes to Oslo.

That is the register's behaviour, not a bug in the filter — so every row carries both: municipalityCode and city for the business address, postalMunicipalityCode and postalCity for the postal one. When a row looks out of area, one of the two will be the municipality you asked for.

The register stops paging at 10,000 results

Brreg refuses any request past an offset of 10,000, whatever page size you ask for. There is no way around it from the API, so this Actor does not pretend otherwise: when your filters match more than 10,000 entities it exports the first 10,000 and logs how many it could not reach.

To cover a larger set, split the query — by municipality, by industry code, or by registration-date window — and run the parts. Each part is a normal run.

Pricing

Pay per result: you are charged once per company row actually exported. A run that matches nothing costs nothing beyond the platform's start event, and the charge always follows the row, never precedes it.

Where the data comes from

Brønnøysundregistrene (the Brønnøysund Register Centre) publishes the Enhetsregisteret as Norwegian open data through data.brreg.no. This Actor calls that API directly and reshapes each record; it adds no estimates and no enrichment from other sources.

Sole proprietorships are people. About a third of the register is ENK, whose registered name is often the owner's own name. They are published by the state as business identities, and they are in scope here, but if your use case should not touch natural persons, set legalForms to AS — or to AS, ASA, NUF and SA — and they will not appear in your export.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Brreg data free to use commercially? Yes. Brønnøysundregistrene publishes the Enhetsregisteret as open data. You still owe your own compliance for what you do with it — in particular Norwegian and EU rules on marketing to sole proprietors.

How current is it? The Actor queries the live API at run time, so a company registered yesterday is available today. There is no cached copy in between.

Why did my search return nothing? Almost always an industry code with four digits instead of five — see the table above. The run log names the code when this happens. The other common cause is a municipality code without its leading zero: Oslo is 0301, not 301.

Can I get every company in Norway in one run? No, and no tool using this API can: the register caps paging at 10,000 results per query. Split by municipality — the register lists 365 municipality codes — and you can cover the whole country across runs.

Do I get directors and owners? No. The Enhetsregisteret publishes entity data; roles and ownership live in separate Brreg registers with their own access rules. This Actor stays within the open Enhetsregisteret.
