Shopify changes without repeated full exports

Shopify Product Price and Stock Change Monitor watches public product information and emits only price, availability, or variant changes observed after a persistent baseline. It is designed for competitive intelligence, assortment tracking, pricing operations, affiliate catalogs, procurement research, and ecommerce workflows that need change events rather than unchanged catalog dumps.

The collector does not rely on one fragile endpoint. It first attempts a bounded public catalog export where the storefront exposes one. For storefronts that reject Apify data-center addresses, the Actor can ask Jina Reader to retrieve the same public catalog using its provider-managed cache; this introduces a disclosed third-party dependency and can delay detection until that cache refreshes, but requires no merchant credentials. Further fallbacks inspect the storefront's product sitemap, official per-product Ajax JSON, homepage links, and schema.org Product data. Requests use a Chrome-fingerprinted HTTP transport, and a bounded rotating proxy pool is used when Apify proxy access is available. Per-store diagnostics identify the selected route. If every source fails, the run fails visibly instead of returning a misleading empty success.

Each snapshot normalizes product ID, handle, title, vendor, minimum and maximum variant price, variant count, available variant count, overall availability, product URL, publication metadata, and observation time. Integer prices from the Ajax endpoint are converted from minor currency units, while decimal catalog prices are preserved in major units.

Baselines, previews, and billing

previewOnly=true is the default. Preview mode validates source access and reports product counts and source diagnostics without charging custom events or mutating persistent state. The first non-preview run creates the baseline and produces no historical change charges. Later runs compare price and availability fields against that baseline and deliver only changed products.

Named monitorId values keep independent baselines in limited-permission Apify key-value storage. Keep the same identifier for one continuing monitor. Store count, sitemap count, product count, alerts, requests, and state retention are bounded. Product URLs discovered from sitemaps must use HTTPS and match the requested storefront host after normalizing the common www alias.

Pricing

Pricing is Pay per event + usage with no start fee. Each delivered product change uses event shopify_product_change_alert at $0.005. Previews, baseline creation, unchanged products, and failed sources do not emit paid custom events. Apify platform usage is charged separately to the runner according to normal compute and storage rules.

Public storefront behavior remains controlled by each merchant. Stores may disable feeds, remove products, redirect domains, add bot protection, or change their theme. Jina Reader availability, caching, and rate limits can also affect fallback coverage and freshness. The Actor reports these limitations rather than claiming universal Shopify coverage. Users remain responsible for lawful schedules, Shopify and Jina source terms, and downstream use of public product information.
