How the scoring works
Four scoring dimensions combine into the Site Viability Score.
Power Availability Index evaluates grid capacity, electricity pricing per kWh, generation mix (percentage renewable), and grid reliability indicators from EIA data. Sites with abundant, affordable, renewable power score highest.
Natural Hazard Composite Score combines seismic risk (USGS earthquake frequency and magnitude), severe weather frequency (NOAA alerts and historical patterns), flood exposure (UK Flood Warnings, FEMA), and disaster declaration history. Lower hazard exposure scores higher.
Cooling Efficiency Rating models projected Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) from ambient temperature data (Weather Forecast) and air quality (OpenAQ). Cool, clean air environments enable efficient free-cooling and lower PUE.
Site Viability Score (0-100) is the weighted composite:
