The most complete Crunchbase scraper for the public, logged-out profile surface. It returns every field a Crunchbase organization page exposes without a login (firmographics, headquarters, industries, employee range, funding round count and last round type, founders with profile links, contact email and phone, social links, Crunchbase rank), adds founders with direct Crunchbase person links and optional AI enrichment, and gives you three input modes plus nine result filters to target exactly the companies you need. No Crunchbase account, cookie, or API key required.

What it does

This Crunchbase scraper collects public company profiles and returns clean, structured company data as JSON, CSV or Excel. Give it company slugs, full Crunchbase URLs, a keyword search, or any combination, and it writes one normalized record per company to the run's dataset. It handles the anti-bot layer internally, so you never supply a proxy, a Crunchbase login, or a cookie.

With withDetails on (the default), each match is enriched with its full public profile: legal name, description, headquarters (city, region, country), categories and category groups, employee range, company type, operating status, IPO status, funding round count, last funding type, founders with Crunchbase profile links, contact email and phone, aliases, hub tags (for example unicorn), Crunchbase rank and social links. Nine optional result filters (country, region, industry, operating status, IPO status, company type, employee range, minimum funding rounds, and a has-contact flag) narrow the output to exactly the companies you want.

Three optional AI add-ons are available on paid Apify plans and off by default: aiCompanySummary, aiRiskFlags (with aiRiskLevel), and aiIndustry (with aiIndustryCode). Each is billed only when it produces output.

Honest scope note: dollar-level funding figures (total raised, per-round amounts, valuations), individual investor names, per-round detail and founded date are gated behind a Crunchbase login and are not exposed to logged-out visitors, so this actor does not return them. It returns the public counts (numFundingRounds, numInvestors, numAcquisitions, numInvestments) and lastFundingType, never fabricated numbers.

How we compare

Named comparison against the other Crunchbase actors on Apify. All facts are from each actor's public listing.

Where competitors win, stated honestly: scrapefull and pratikdani layer third-party enrichment onto the profile (SEMrush traffic, BuiltWith tech stack, Apptopia app downloads, patent counts) that this actor does not scrape. jungle_synthesizer exposes rounds and investor modes with per-round amounts and valuations, and filters at the discovery step. curious_coder is the most adopted Crunchbase actor on Apify (thousands of users) and, because it uses your logged-in Crunchbase cookie, can read paywalled fields such as funding totals and investor names that a logged-out scraper cannot. Choose this actor when you want a clean, login-free, pay-per-result feed of the public company profile with no monthly rental and no cookie handling.

Use cases

  • VC and PE deal sourcing. Search a sector, filter by country and minimum funding rounds, and pull a clean list of companies with founders, HQ, industry and funding-round counts for your pipeline.
  • Investor and market research. Map an industry with industries and categoryGroups, then export to Excel to size a market and spot active company clusters.
  • Sales prospecting and lead lists. Look up target accounts by name or URL, keep only companies with a public email or phone (onlyWithContact), and enrich your CRM with website, HQ, employee range and socials.
  • Company enrichment. Feed a list of slugs or Crunchbase URLs and append firmographics, LinkedIn and Twitter/X, and Crunchbase rank to records you already have.
  • KYB and diligence triage. Use operatingStatus, ipoStatus, company type and the optional AI risk-flags add-on to flag closed, delisted or thin-profile companies before deeper checks.
  • Startup and ecosystem tracking. Monitor hubTags such as unicorn, founder lineups and acquisition counts across a watchlist of companies.

Quickstart

Open the actor, paste this into the input, and press Run. It returns the full public profile for Stripe and OpenAI.

{
"slugs": ["stripe", "openai"],
"withDetails": true,
"maxCompanies": 10
}

Search and filter in one run, for example US fintech companies with at least three funding rounds:

{
"searchQuery": "fintech",
"countries": ["United States"],
"industries": ["FinTech"],
"minFundingRounds": 3,
"maxCompanies": 25
}

Provide companies by slugs, by full companyUrls, and/or by a searchQuery. You can combine them. The slug is the last path segment of a crunchbase.com/organization/<slug> URL.

Run via API and CLI

Start a run and wait for it to finish, then read the dataset. Replace <TOKEN> with your Apify API token.

Run synchronously and get dataset items in one call:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~crunchbase-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"slugs":["stripe","airbnb"],"withDetails":true,"maxCompanies":10}'

Start a run asynchronously:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~crunchbase-scraper/runs?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"searchQuery":"fintech","countries":["United States"],"minFundingRounds":3,"maxCompanies":25}'

Apify CLI:

apify call scrapers_lat/crunchbase-scraper \
--input '{"companyUrls":["https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/openai"]}'

Fetch results

Every run writes to a dataset. Fetch items as JSON, CSV, or Excel by changing format:

# JSON
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=json"
# CSV
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=csv"
# Paginate large datasets
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&offset=1000&limit=1000"

<DATASET_ID> is returned as defaultDatasetId in the run object. Use offset and limit to page through large result sets. clean=true drops empty and internal fields.

Billing and limits

  • Pay per result. You are charged per company profile returned (result event). See the pricing tab for the current per-result price. No monthly rental, no minimums.
  • Optional AI add-ons are billed as separate events only when they produce output: ai_company_summary, ai_risk_flags and ai_industry. They are off by default and require a paid Apify plan.
  • No charge on failure, blocks, or filtered-out companies. If Crunchbase returns no data or a run errors, the actor writes a record with a populated error field and does not charge for it. Companies removed by your result filters are not charged. Empty runs cost nothing.
  • Spend cap respected. Set maxTotalChargeUsd on the run; once reached, the actor stops emitting and charging further billable results and add-ons.
  • Free Apify plans are capped at 10 records per run and cannot use the AI add-ons. Upgrade for higher maxCompanies.

FAQ and troubleshooting

Do I need a Crunchbase account, login, cookie, or API key? No. This actor reads only the public, logged-out company profile and handles anti-bot internally. Unlike cookie-based Crunchbase actors, you never paste your own credentials.

Does it return funding amounts, valuations, and individual investor names? No. Crunchbase gates dollar-level funding totals, per-round amounts, valuations, investor names and founded date behind a paid login, so a logged-out scraper cannot read them and this actor does not fabricate them. It returns the public counts (numFundingRounds, numInvestors, numAcquisitions, numInvestments) and lastFundingType. If you need paywalled figures, a cookie-based or API-key actor is the honest alternative.

How do I search instead of listing exact companies? Pass searchQuery with a name or keyword. You can combine it with slugs and companyUrls, and narrow the matches with the result filters.

Why did my run return fewer companies than maxCompanies? maxCompanies caps how many companies are looked up; result filters (country, industry, funding rounds, contact) then remove non-matching companies, so the final count can be lower. Filtered-out and blocked companies are never charged.

A record came back with "error". Why? Crunchbase applies anti-bot protection and occasionally blocks a request or hides a profile. Those records are not charged. Retry the company, or reduce the number of companies per run. Runs can take a few minutes because the anti-bot layer is cleared on the fly.

Why are the detail fields empty? description, categories, founders and similar are populated only when withDetails is on (the default).

Why are the ai* fields missing? The AI add-ons are off by default and require a paid Apify plan. Enable withAiCompanySummary, withAiRiskFlags or withAiIndustry.

What formats can I export? JSON, CSV, and Excel, plus every other format the Apify dataset API supports.

Is this an official Crunchbase tool? No. This actor is independent and has no affiliation with Crunchbase. It reads only data that is publicly available on Crunchbase organization pages. Use it in accordance with the Crunchbase terms of service.
