What you can do with it
- Audience research and content ideas: what viewers ask, praise and complain about on your videos and your competitors'.
- Sentiment and brand monitoring: export thousands of comments on product reviews, launches or ads for analysis.
- Community management: the newest comments first, with pinned and creator-hearted flags, on a schedule.
- Datasets for AI: clean text with likes and replies as engagement signals.
Input
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
videoUrls | Video, Shorts or live links, or video ids |
maxComments | Top-level comments per video (default 100) |
sortBy | top (default) or newest |
includeReplies, maxRepliesPerComment | Replies of each comment, up to N each (default 20) |
onlyNewComments | Only comments not delivered in earlier runs; made for daily schedules (see below) |
{ "videoUrls": ["https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aircAruvnKk"], "maxComments": 500, "sortBy": "newest", "includeReplies": true, "maxRepliesPerComment": 10 }
Schedule it daily: only new comments
Turn on onlyNewComments, save the input as a Task and attach a Schedule. The Actor remembers which comments of each video it already delivered (in a Key-Value Store in your own account, youtube-comments-scraper-only-new), reads the newest first and stops at the first comment you already have. Every run delivers, and charges, only what was posted since; a day with nothing new ends with "No new comment since the last run" and costs nothing for results. Delete the store to start over.
{ "videoUrls": ["https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aircAruvnKk"], "maxComments": 200, "onlyNewComments": true }
The order is always newest with this option. New replies to comments delivered in an earlier run are not tracked.
Output fields
type (comment or reply), commentId, commentUrl, videoId, videoTitle, videoCommentCount (as YouTube shows it, rounded for large numbers such as 10M), text, likeCount, replyCount, publishedTimeText (as YouTube shows it), publishedAtApprox (computed from it; YouTube gives only relative dates), isEdited, authorIsVerified, authorIsCreator, isPinned, isHeartedByCreator, parentCommentId, scrapedAt.
About the people who comment, only what YouTube shows next to the comment: the display name and the verified badge. Never channel ids, photos or links.
Error codes (never charged)
| errorCode | Meaning |
|---|---|
COMMENTS_UNAVAILABLE | Comments are off, or the video is private, deleted or age restricted |
NO_RESULTS | The video has no comments yet |
INVALID_URL | Not a YouTube video link or id |
BLOCKED, NOT_REACHED, UNEXPECTED | YouTube did not answer after retries, the run timeout arrived, or something unforeseen broke; only that video is lost |
Pricing
US$ 1.00 per 1,000 comments or replies. 10,000 comments cost US$ 10.00. Error rows and duplicates are free, and there is no Apify compute bill on top.
Limitations
- Dates are relative on YouTube ("3 weeks ago");
publishedAtApproxconverts them, so older comments are accurate to the unit YouTube shows (day, week, month or year). - Very large videos have millions of comments; set
maxCommentsto what you need, the run pages 20 at a time. - This Actor reads public comments only and respects the site's terms.
FAQ
Do I need a YouTube account, cookies or an API key? No. The Actor reads public comments without login, cookies or a YouTube API key, so there is no API quota either.
What does a run cost? Only the comments and replies delivered: US$ 1.00 per 1,000, so 10,000 comments cost US$ 10.00. Error rows and duplicates are free, and there is no Apify compute bill on top.
How do I get the replies too?
Turn on includeReplies. Each comment then brings up to maxRepliesPerComment replies (default 20) as reply rows linked to it by parentCommentId. Each reply is charged like a comment.
How many comments can I get per video?
Set maxComments (default 100 top-level comments per video). Very large videos have millions of comments, so set it to what you need; it is also your main cost control.
Can I schedule it and get only new comments?
Yes. Turn on onlyNewComments, save the input as a Task and attach a Schedule. Each run delivers, and charges, only comments not delivered before, and a day with nothing new costs nothing for results. New replies to comments delivered in an earlier run are not tracked.
Why are the dates approximate?
YouTube shows only relative dates ("3 weeks ago"). publishedTimeText keeps that text and publishedAtApprox converts it, accurate to the unit YouTube shows (day, week, month or year).
