Pull employee reviews from AmbitionBox — India's largest employer-review site — as clean, structured rows: 38 fields per review, seven category star ratings, and the department, job title, city and work policy behind every one of them. Built for HR analytics teams, employer-brand and recruitment-marketing agencies, and equity researchers who need to know what employees actually say about Indian employers, without clicking through a review site 20 cards at a time.

Why This Scraper?

  • Five filters that stack — company, department, job title, city and review topic. On Wipro they cut 66,804 reviews down to 19,189 (Engineering – Software & QA), then 5,135 (Bengaluru), then 3 (Analyst), every step confirmed against the live site.
  • Seven category ratings on every review — salary & benefits, skill development, job security, promotions & appraisal, work satisfaction, company culture and work-life balance, each a 1–5 star alongside the overall star. All seven were present on 321 of 321 reviews in a four-company sample.
  • A 36-department taxonomy that is identical on every employer — Engineering – Software & QA, BFSI Investments & Trading, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Shipping & Maritime and 32 more. The same department works on Wipro, HDFC Bank and Tata Motors, so one filter runs unchanged across your whole company list.
  • 11 review topics matched against the review text, not against the star rating — salary, work-life balance, work culture, job security, senior management, learning, appraisal, career growth, working hours and more. On Wipro: 9,773 reviews that genuinely discuss pay, 315 that discuss job satisfaction.
  • Work-policy and employment context on every row — work from office, hybrid or work from home, plus employment type, working days, timing policy and travel requirement, so ratings split by site, shift or remote arrangement. Work policy came back on 321 of 321 sampled reviews.
  • The reviewer's own words, cleaned — "what I liked" text on 90% of reviews and "what I disliked" on 88%, measured across 321 reviews spanning four companies and four review facets, with the site's own highlight formatting removed so a topic-filtered export is plain prose.
  • A three-state verified flag — verified, explicitly unverified and unknown stay apart instead of collapsing into true/false (246 / 22 / 53 across the sample), so verified reviews can be weighted without counting unknowns as fakes.
  • Up to 10,000 reviews per search, newest first, and every row carries an absolute review link plus the company name, slug and numeric ID — a multi-company export joins without a lookup table.

Use Cases

Employer Brand & Talent Analytics

  • Track your own employer rating across all seven categories over time, not just the headline star
  • Benchmark work-life balance, career growth and salary scores against named competitors in the same department
  • Find the locations dragging a rating down — city is both a filter and an output field
  • Pull the verbatim pros and cons behind a rating drop and route them to the department responsible

HR, Compensation & Policy Research

  • Measure how hybrid, work-from-office and work-from-home populations rate the same employer
  • Compare salary & benefits scores by department across a whole industry on one shared taxonomy
  • Study working-days, timing-policy and travel-requirement labels alongside satisfaction scores
  • Isolate the reviews that actually discuss pay or appraisal with the topic filter, instead of guessing at keywords

Competitive & Market Intelligence

  • Build a sector-wide view of employee sentiment across dozens of Indian employers in one run
  • Track a rival's job-security and senior-management scores through a restructuring
  • See which job titles a competitor is losing people from by filtering on designation
  • Compare two employers on the same department and city, so the comparison is like for like

Investment & Vendor Due Diligence

  • Add an employee-sentiment signal to diligence on Indian listed and private companies
  • Watch culture and job-security trends at an outsourcing partner ahead of contract renewal
  • Evidence a qualitative claim with dated, quotable review text instead of a single aggregate star

Data Enrichment & Integration

  • Join reviews to your own company master data on company slug and numeric ID, present on every row
  • Feed cleaned pros and cons text straight into a topic-modelling or LLM pipeline — nothing to strip
  • Refresh on a schedule and diff on review ID and last-updated timestamp to catch only new reviews

What to Scrape

ParameterTypeDefaultDescription
searchUrlsarrayAmbitionBox company review pages. Open a company's reviews page on ambitionbox.com, set the filters you want, then paste the address bar URL here -- one line per company. A plain company name works too ("tcs", "infosys"), and so does that company's overview, salaries or interviews address; each is read as that company's reviews. Anything you paste here is used exactly as pasted, so the Company and Filters fields below are ignored for those searches.
companystringwiproThe company's short name as AmbitionBox writes it in its own web address -- the part before "-reviews". For hdfc-bank-reviews that is "hdfc-bank". Measured review totals: tcs 117,584, wipro 66,804, hdfc-bank 54,356, reliance-retail 27,950, tata-motors 14,524.
maxItemsinteger100Maximum reviews per search URL (0 = collect everything each search returns). AmbitionBox pages through at most 10,000 reviews per search, so use several narrower searches to collect more.

Filters

All four are optional and they stack — each one you add makes the search narrower.

ParameterTypeDefaultDescription
departmentstring""Collect reviews from one department only. This is AmbitionBox's own 36-department taxonomy and it is the same list on every company, so a department is never "missing" -- it just returns fewer reviews. Measured on Wipro: Engineering - Software & QA 19,189 reviews, Customer Success 9,931, IT & Information Security 6,197, Human Resources 1,379, Shipping & Maritime 11.
designationstring""Collect reviews from one job title only. Write it the way AmbitionBox writes it in its own web address: all lower case, spaces replaced by hyphens -- "software-engineer", "senior-soft-engineer", "assistant-manager", "analyst". Every company has its own list; the quickest way to get one right is to click the job title on the company's reviews page and copy the address bar into Search URLs instead. Measured on Wipro: analyst 901 reviews, software-engineer 1,134, senior-soft-engineer 2,178.
citystring""Collect reviews written by employees at one location only. Again the way AmbitionBox writes it in its own address bar: lower case with hyphens -- "bengaluru", "mumbai", "new-delhi", "gurgaon", "navi-mumbai". Measured on Wipro: bengaluru 11,794 reviews, pune 8,384, new-delhi 1,662, jorhat 1.
topicstring""Keep only the reviews that actually talk about one subject -- AmbitionBox matches the review text and highlights the term it matched. Measured on Wipro out of 66,804 reviews: salary 9,773, work-life balance 5,907, work culture 5,731, job security 5,417, senior management 4,993, learning 4,770, work environment 4,749, appraisal 4,271, career growth 3,628, working hours 1,288, job satisfaction 315.

Output

Every review is one dataset row. The example below is a real captured record. AmbitionBox publishes reviews anonymously — no reviewer name, email or profile is in the payload and none is in the output — but review text is written by people, so treat it as personal data.

Tips for Best Results

  • AmbitionBox pages through at most 10,000 reviews per search (500 pages of 20). TCS alone has 117,584 and Wipro 66,804, so for a big employer stack Department + City + Job title and run several narrower searches instead of one broad one — that is the only way past the ceiling.
  • Department and Review topic are fixed lists; Job title and City are free text. Pick the first two from the dropdown and they always resolve. The other two must be written exactly the way AmbitionBox writes them in its address bar — lower case, hyphens for spaces (new-delhi, not New Delhi). The safest route is to click the filter on the site and paste the resulting address into searchUrls.
  • Use Review topic when you want evidence rather than sentiment. It matches the review text, so salary returns the 9,773 Wipro reviews that genuinely discuss pay — not the ones that merely scored it low.
  • Some fields are only there when the reviewer filled them in. workPolicyDetail, worksBeyondOfficeHours, helpfulCount, workDays, workTimings and travelRequirement are sparse by design. pros and cons came back on 90% and 88% of a 321-review sample, and the rating, company, job and timestamp fields are effectively always present.
  • Power user: build dashboards off ratingBreakdown, not only the seven flat columns. The array carries each category by name, so if AmbitionBox ever adds an eighth category the array picks it up while the flat columns cannot.
  • contentTags describes a review's place in the current listing, not the review itself. The same review can come back tagged differently on a filtered and an unfiltered run, so do not treat it as a stable attribute of the review.
  • Timestamps arrive at full precision in the site's own local time (IST), with no zone offset — convert before comparing them against UTC data of your own. Reviews come back newest first, so a run capped with maxItems always gives you the most recent ones.

A "result" is any review row in the output dataset. When you run several searches at once, a review matching more than one of them is de-duplicated before it reaches the dataset, so you are never charged twice for the same review. Platform fees (compute, storage) are additional and depend on your Apify plan.
