What it does

Returns the official crop insurance projected prices, volatility factors and harvest prices by crop, type, practice and state for the crop years you pick, with the price status (Released, In Discovery, Yet To Start), the futures symbol and the price discovery period behind each price. Crops include corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, oats, grain sorghum, rice, cotton, peanuts, canola, sunflowers, popcorn, flax and rye, wherever the source lists them.

Quick start (no code)

1. Leave the default to get Iowa for the 2026 crop year, or type state codes (or ALL) in "States".
2. Change "Crop years" to 2027 to see next year's prices as they are set.
3. Optional: type corn or wheat in "Crop contains".
4. Click Start and download the table as CSV, Excel or JSON.

Output fields

Every row has the same fields in the same order. Missing values are null. commodityYear, commodity, type, practice, state, stateCode, salesClosingDate, projectedPrice, projectedPriceStatus, projectedPriceSymbol, projectedPriceDateRange, priceVolatility, priceVolatilityStatus, harvestPrice, harvestPriceStatus, harvestPriceSymbol, harvestPriceDateRange, multiplicativeFactor, additiveFactor, note, error, qcStatus, qcNotes, sourceUrl, retrievedAt, retrievedAtLocal.

• The source shows 0.0000 before a price period starts. This tool returns null in that case, and keeps the status so you can see why.
• "In Discovery" harvest prices are running values that change daily until the period ends.
• Prices are in the unit RMA uses for each crop (for example per bushel or per pound). The source file does not state the unit.

Self-checks

Rows are never dropped. A row is flagged with a reason when a Released price is missing, a price is outside a plausible range, the volatility factor is outside 0 to 2, the harvest price differs from the projected price by more than 5 times, or the state name is not recognized. A bad year is rejected with an error row, because the source quietly returns a different year when asked for one it does not have.

U.S. Department of Agriculture, Risk Management Agency, Price Discovery tool, public CSV export (https://public-rma.fpac.usda.gov/apps/PriceDiscovery/). Listed on data.gov with a CC0 license. RMA says the data is updated daily from the previous day's market prices.
