NWS Daily Climate Reports (CLI) — US daily high, low, precipitation and snowfall

Get the official National Weather Service Daily Climate Report (CLI) for any US climate station as clean JSON: daily maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation, snowfall, snow depth, normals, departures from normal and records — with a clear preliminary vs. final flag on every row.

The CLI is the report the NWS treats as the official daily record for a station, so it is what people use to settle questions like "what was the official high in Central Park yesterday?".

  2. Optionally set start date and end date (default: the last 7 days). Up to 5 years per run.

Schedule it daily to build your own history, or call it from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

Common uses

  • Backtesting and settling daily temperature questions with the official NWS number
  • Energy and utility analytics (degree days, demand vs. temperature)
  • Agriculture, insurance and event-planning research
  • Journalism and climate dashboards ("hottest September day on record?")

Pricing

Free to use — you only pay Apify's standard platform usage, which is tiny because this Actor calls official APIs directly (no browser, no proxies).

Data sources and reliability

  • Report data: NWS Daily Climate Reports, via the archive of the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University). Both are public domain; thanks to IEM for maintaining the archive.
  • Station names and time zones: api.weather.gov.
  • Only official APIs are used — no scraping, no proxies, no CAPTCHAs — which is why runs are fast and stable.

The NWS can revise reports; when a corrected report is issued, the latest version is returned. This Actor is not affiliated with NOAA, the NWS or Iowa State University.
