News Hub 📰🌍

A full news aggregator in one Actor — world, politics, business, sports, celebrity, AI, tech and crypto headlines from top outlets, plus topic search across worldwide news and a "what's hot right now" trending mode. Headlines, snippets and links, no API key.

Stop juggling a dozen news sites and RSS readers. This Actor pulls curated, syndication-friendly outlets (BBC, The Guardian, NPR, Al Jazeera, ESPN, Variety, Ars Technica, The Verge, CoinDesk and more) and fuses them with GDELT, the open global news-metadata service — into one clean, de-duplicated feed you can query four ways.

Four modes

ModeWhat you get
HeadlinesPick a category — world, politics, business, sports, celebrity, AI, tech, crypto (or all) — and get the latest from every curated outlet in it, merged and de-duplicated. AI/crypto/business/tech can be topped up with GDELT worldwide coverage.
SearchAny keyword or phrase across worldwide news metadata (GDELT) — filter by language, source country and time window.
HotWhat's trending right now — stories many outlets are covering at once (cross-source frequency), or the volume trend for a specific topic.
DigestOne summary row: article counts by category, source and country, plus the trending topics of the moment.

Run it on a schedule

Schedule a run every hour to keep a live news table in a sheet or dashboard, power a category news page, monitor a topic or brand across world media, or diff the digest to catch breaking stories the moment coverage spikes.

How it stays clean (sources & policy)

  • Headlines + the publisher's own snippet + image + a link back — never the full article body. This is the standard aggregator model (Google News / Feedly / Apple News): facts and attribution with a link to the source, not republished article text.
  • GDELT — an open, commercial-friendly global news-metadata service (no key). It returns article metadata (title, domain, date, image, language, country), not content.
  • Curated RSS/Atom — hand-picked outlets that publish syndication feeds. Only stable, non-paywalled feeds are included.
  • Google News RSS is deliberately excluded — its feed licence forbids commercial use.
  • No API key for any mode. All data is public news metadata.

Notes & limitations

  • Feeds reflect what each outlet currently publishes; some carry a short excerpt as summary, some none.
  • GDELT is rate-limited (about one query every 5 seconds); the Actor paces and retries automatically, so a single run is always fine.
  • country uses GDELT source-country codes; language uses GDELT language names (e.g. english).
  • Coverage skews English-language by default — widen it with the language filter in search/hot modes.
