Public Substack API client. No auth, no login needed.
How this compares
One result type covers all three modes: archive rows, full posts with body text, and publication profiles that include the subscriber count. The client talks to Substack's public API directly and needs no key and no login. At $1.00 per 1,000 posts it is below automation-lab/substack-scraper ($1.15 per 1,000 post-metadata rows, $2.30 with content), fatihtahta/substack-scraper ($2.50) and easyapi/substack-posts-scraper ($4.99). sourabhbgp/substack-scraper lists a lower price of $0.30 per 1,000 rows; check its listing for which fields it returns. Platform usage is paid by you on top of the event price, and each run also costs $0.00005.

Modes
- archive — recent posts list (paginated,
maxItemsto cap) - post — full post by slug (includes body text)
- publication — publication profile + subscriber count
Input
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| publication | string | Substack slug (e.g. a16z) or custom domain |
| mode | enum | archive (default), post, publication |
| maxItems | int | Max posts (0 = uncapped, safely limited to 5000; defaults to 10) |
| postSlug | string | Post slug for post mode |
Output
Archive/post rows: id, title, slug, postDate, audience, type, subtitle, url, likeCount, commentCount, wordCount, bodyText (post mode only), publication, mode.
Publication rows: id, name, slug, url, description, subscriberCount, postCount (always null — exact post counts are not exposed by public Substack endpoints), mode.
Notes
- Custom domains (e.g.
stratechery.com) may redirect/api/v1/*to their own archives — prefer the substack slug when known. - Uses curl (proven TLS fingerprint for WAF'd sites).
