News Keyword Monitor

News Keyword Monitor filters public RSS and Atom feeds by literal keywords and emits stable news-item records that are suitable for scheduled alerts and downstream automation. It is a lightweight option when you already know which feeds matter and want deterministic keyword matching without a separate news-monitoring service.

What it does

The Actor reads configured public RSS or Atom feeds, evaluates feed items against the supplied keyword rules, normalizes matching entries, and writes them to the default Apify dataset. Stable item records make the output easier to process repeatedly in monitoring workflows.

Typical use cases include:

• monitoring company, product, or competitor mentions;
• tracking a topic across selected industry feeds;
• building simple scheduled news alerts;
• feeding matching articles into research or summarization workflows;
• collecting structured feed data for later analysis.

Quick start

1. Add one or more public RSS or Atom feed URLs to the Actor input.
2. Add the literal keywords you want to monitor.
3. Start with conservative result and request limits.
4. Run the Actor and inspect the default dataset.
5. Confirm that the matches reflect the keyword rules you intended.
6. Once verified, schedule the Actor or trigger it through the Apify API.

The Input tab also contains shared crawler controls such as retries, concurrency, request limits, timeouts, and proxy configuration, together with the Actor-specific feed filtering options.

Output

Each emitted dataset item represents a normalized matching feed entry together with source and scrape metadata. The Actor dataset schema defines the exact output fields and types. Results can be exported as JSON, CSV, or Excel or consumed programmatically through the Apify dataset API.

Scheduling and integrations

This Actor is especially useful on a schedule. Run it at an interval appropriate for the feeds you monitor, then connect results to webhooks, Make, Zapier, notification services, databases, or other Actors.

Limitations

The Actor depends on the quality and availability of the public feed supplied by the publisher. A feed may expose only a subset of articles, shortened text, or delayed updates. Literal keyword matching is intentionally predictable and is not a semantic classifier. Feed formats and endpoints can also change upstream.
