MI

videoPlayCount = 0, likesCount = -1 for Instagram Reels

Hello, I've noticed a consistent issue when scraping Instagram Reels:

videoPlayCount is always returned as 0

likesCount is always -1

This happens across all runs, even though the content is public and clearly shows non-zero engagement metrics on Instagram. Can you clarify whether this is a limitation of the Instagram API, a bug in the actor, or a temporary restriction? Is there any planned fix or workaround to get accurate engagement metrics for Reels?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Sorry, I meant Video View Count

Hi!

Likes -1 for one post because likes and view counters are disabled in this post, see https://console.apify.com/view/runs/xykG9dxN1n8WJe3iC

For the rest, I checked https://www.instagram.com/p/DJmRmZYNGPd/ manually, counters are not disabled, but the view counter is really zero, so the actor is getting the correct value from Instagram.

I will close the issue now, but if there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.

Issue reported for the different profiles, so it might be profile-specific.

Will try to find a solution.

Hi!

No official announcement from Instagram, according to the docs https://help.instagram.com/1011558218890996, the view counter should be available.

In fact, it is not presented in the interface or internal data for public or own posts, even with an Instagram login. It might be temporarily, but right now view counter has been entirely removed by Instagram. The play counter is not affected.

We monitoring Instagram output and will restore the view counter in case if Instagram recovers it.

I will close the issue now, but if there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.
