Search Archive.org and turn public catalog records into clean, export-ready datasets. Find books, films, audio, software, images, and research collections—or fetch exact item identifiers with their file manifests, hashes, download links, and public reviews.
No Archive.org account, API key, proxy, or browser automation is required.
Start in 30 seconds
- Choose Search catalog.
- Enter plain keywords or an Internet Archive Advanced Search query.
- Set the result limit and click Start.
- Export the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, HTML, or RSS.
{"operation": "search","query": "title:(climate change)","mediaType": "texts","sortBy": "downloads","maxItems": 100}
What each result contains
- Identifier, title, creator, dates, media type, and download count
- Description, subjects, languages, and collections
- Direct Archive.org item and thumbnail URLs
- Optional original or derived file manifests
- File names, formats, sizes, MD5 hashes, and direct download URLs
- Optional public reviews
Example output
{"identifier": "example-item","title": "Example archive item","creator": "Example creator","mediaType": "texts","downloads": 1250,"archiveUrl": "https://archive.org/details/example-item"}
Fetch file manifests and reviews
Use exact item identifiers when you need complete metadata rather than search results.
{"operation": "itemDetails","identifiers": ["xfetch"],"includeFiles": true,"includeDerivedFiles": false,"includeReviews": true,"maxFilesPerItem": 100}
This mode is useful for digital-humanities datasets, preservation inventories, public-domain discovery, media catalogs, and research pipelines.
Search syntax and filters
Plain keywords work. Advanced field queries also work, including title:(climate change), creator:(Jane Austen), and subject:(public domain). Use the media type, collection, and language fields for exact filters, then sort by relevance, downloads, date, or title.
Pricing
Pay only for dataset results. Platform usage is included.
| Results | Price |

| 10 | $0.01 |
| 100 | $0.10 |
| 1,000 | $1.00 |
Reliability and responsible access
The Actor uses Internet Archive's public read APIs, sends a descriptive User-Agent, paces detail requests, retries temporary failures, and respects 429 Too Many Requests responses. It runs with limited Apify permissions.
Only metadata and links are returned; files are not downloaded or copied. Availability and rights vary by item, and users remain responsible for how they use or download linked material.
Limits
- Up to 1,000 dataset items per run
- Up to 1,000 exact identifiers in detail mode
- Configurable file-list cap per item
- Clear error records for unavailable items or temporary upstream failures
Data source and affiliation
This independent community Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by Internet Archive. It uses the public Internet Archive Advanced Search and Item Metadata APIs.
