How to use

  1. Add one or more license plates (letters and digits, e.g. GXY6291).
  2. Pick the plate state (default NY; clear it to match any state).
  3. Optionally filter by violation text (HYDRANT, STREET CLEANING, …) or return only tickets with an amount still due.
  4. Run it, then download the dataset or call it from the API.

Input example

{
"plates": ["GXY6291", "CDP6888"],
"state": "",
"violationContains": "STREET CLEANING",
"onlyOutstanding": false,
"maxItemsPerPlate": 1000
}

Pricing

$0.50 per 1,000 tickets returned (pay per result — $0.0005 each). You are only charged for tickets that are actually returned; plates with no tickets cost nothing. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops when it is reached.

Use cases

  • Fleet and rental-car managers — monitor unpaid tickets across a vehicle list.
  • Used-car buyers and dealers — check a car's violation history before buying.
  • Collections, insurance and legal teams — enrich plate lists with violation data.
  • Researchers and journalists — analyse where and why tickets are issued, by precinct, county or violation type.

FAQ

Where does the data come from? The official NYC Open Data portal, dataset "Open Parking and Camera Violations". The city refreshes it regularly.

Does it include every ticket ever issued? No. The dataset covers open violations and recently resolved ones as published by the city, so older closed tickets may be missing.

Is this allowed? The data is public open data published by the City of New York under its open data terms. Plate numbers can identify individuals, so use the output lawfully and in line with applicable privacy laws (e.g. DPPA, GDPR/CCPA).

Rate limits? Anonymous Socrata access is throttled. The Actor retries automatically with back-off.
