A substantial number of places on googlemaps list that they only have 5 images (some kind of default), when in fact viewing the place manually they will have many more photos. The scraper only collects the 5 urls and dutifully reports the place as only having 5 photos. Is this a known issue? Is it a gmaps bug? Is it possible to circumvent and collect the remaining images?

Hey,
thank you for the report. It seems like a gmaps bug. The actor respect the reported number of images and doesn't scrape anymore if it reaches that number. We'll add this to our backlog and see if we can fix it somehow on our side.
