Export public CoinMarketCap cryptocurrency prices, market caps, ranks and trading volumes for dashboards, market research and newsletters. Collect a market-cap ranking snapshot or specific coin profiles with available descriptions and official links, then download CSV, Excel or JSON.
Quick start
Start with two known coin slugs and an explicit limit:
{"slugs": ["bitcoin", "ethereum"],"maxItems": 2,"includeDescription": true,"includeOfficialLinks": true,"proxyConfiguration": {"useApifyProxy": false}}
Open the dataset after the run. Results are scrape-time snapshots of public page data, rather than a real-time trading feed or access to the paid CoinMarketCap API.
Prefer a video guide? This short Apify walkthrough shows you how to set up and run an Actor. It uses a different Actor, but the setup steps are the same.
Ready-to-run examples
Choose a public example to see its settings before starting a run:
- Scrape Bitcoin profile and official links
- Check Bitcoin and Ethereum prices
- Scrape top cryptocurrency prices from CoinMarketCap
What you get
- Ranking records: available coin names, symbols, USD prices, market caps, ranks and trading volumes from a market-cap snapshot.
- Profile details: available descriptions and official links when you request specific coin profiles and enable those fields.
- Source context: coin identifiers and timestamps that help you organize exports and check when the data was collected or updated.
Who is it for?
- Market researchers: collect bounded cryptocurrency snapshots for your own analysis.
- Newsletter editors: add prices, market caps and source timestamps to a market update.
- Dashboard builders: send structured coin records to a spreadsheet or reporting app.
How you can use the data
Prepare a market snapshot
Collect a small, consistent set of market data for a report. For example, request 20 coins ranked by market cap and save the export with its collection time. When comparing exports, match coins by their available coinId or slug and check the source's lastUpdated value. Your spreadsheet or app handles that comparison.
Build a coin research sheet
Look up specific coins rather than treating a ranking as a complete profile. Request Bitcoin and Ethereum profiles when you need their available descriptions and official links. Keep the source links alongside your notes so you can review the original pages. Those profile fields are not automatically collected for every ranking result.
Input settings
| Input | How it changes the collection |
|---|---|
startUrls | Public HTTPS CoinMarketCap homepage or currency-profile URLs |
slugs | Specific coin slugs or supported symbols, converted to profile URLs |
maxItems | Explicit whole-run cap, up to 1,000 saved records |
includeDescription | Include an available profile description |
includeOfficialLinks | Include available websites, explorers and source-code links |
proxyConfiguration | Connection settings. See field help. The quick start explicitly disables managed proxy use |
URL and slug targets can be combined. URL targets are processed first. With neither supplied, the Actor collects a ranking snapshot. Other non-profile CoinMarketCap paths also select the general ranking snapshot: category filters, page numbers and URL sorting parameters are not applied. Ranking snapshots use descending market cap and USD figures. Custom sorting and quote currencies are not input options.
A ranking snapshot and a coin profile may expose different fields. Use profile targets for descriptions and links. Enabling these fields does not fetch profiles for every ranking record. Repeated coin slugs are saved only once. Keep maxItems explicit: the form defaults to 20, while an API input that omits it uses 25.
Example inputs
Use the Quick start input as a small first run. Adjust the fields described above for your own data.
Output data
Each dataset row represents a coin record. This partial, shape-only example illustrates field types, not observed prices:
{"slug": "bitcoin","name": "Bitcoin","symbol": "BTC","price": null,"marketCap": null,"profileDescription": null,"officialLinks": []}
| Fields | Meaning |
|---|---|
coinId, slug, name, symbol, url | Coin identity and profile URL |
rank, price, marketCap, volume24h | Available ranking and USD market figures |
circulatingSupply, totalSupply, maxSupply | Available supply metrics |
percentChange1h, percentChange24h, percentChange7d | Reported price-change percentages |
high24h, low24h, ath, atl | Available price-range and historical extremes |
profileDescription, tags | Available profile context |
officialLinks, explorerLinks, sourceCodeLinks | Public external references |
dateAdded, marketPairCount | Available listing date and number of market pairs |
lastUpdated, scrapedAt | Source quote time, when present, and collection time |
Missing numeric/profile fields can be null. Missing link lists can be empty. Those values do not mean a coin has zero market cap or no official website.
Download your results
Open your run's dataset, choose Export and select JSON, CSV or Excel. JSON keeps nested fields together. CSV and Excel are useful when you want to review the records in a spreadsheet.
See Apify's download and export guide for the available formats and field options.
Pricing
The start event is charged once when collection begins. A run can incur this charge even if no coin records are saved.
The item event is charged per saved coin record. Summary records are not coin results. For focused lookups, use specific profiles and keep maxItems small.
See the live Pricing tab for current rates and discounts.
Tips for best results
- Choose profiles for descriptions and links. Ranking snapshots do not automatically fetch those details for every coin.
- Set your result cap explicitly. Start with 20 or fewer coin records. The form defaults to 20, while an API input that omits
maxItemsuses 25. - Keep timestamps with each export. Check the collection time and available source-update time before comparing snapshots.
Limits and caveats
The Actor collects public market data only. It does not access personal portfolios, perform trades or guarantee complete market coverage.
Available records and optional fields depend on the targets and source. A ranking snapshot and a coin profile can contain different fields, so missing profile details do not establish that those details are unavailable elsewhere. Check collection and source-update timestamps before treating an export as current.
Verify figures against an authoritative feed before making financial decisions.
Automation and integrations
Save your settings for next time
Once you have an input that works for you, save it as an Apify task. This keeps your settings together so you can use them again without filling in the form from scratch.
Run on a schedule
Need fresh results regularly? You can schedule the Actor or a saved task to run at a time that suits you.
Each scheduled run collects the data again. If you want to compare results or highlight changes, add that step in your own workflow.
Send results to your other tools
Use n8n, Make or Zapier to connect this scraper to the rest of your workflow. For example, you could pass its results to an AI assistant or add records to a spreadsheet. Follow the Apify integration guides for your chosen tool.
For a custom connection, an Apify webhook can notify your app when a run finishes or fails. Your app can then fetch the results or handle the failure.
API usage
Want to collect this data from your own app or automation? The examples below send input to the scraper and show how to collect its results.
The Node.js and Python examples wait for the run to finish before reading its results. The cURL example starts the run and returns its details. Wait for that run to finish, then use its defaultDatasetId to fetch the results.
For setup instructions, see Apify's JavaScript client guide, Python client guide and Actor runs API reference.

MCP and AI agents
You can ask your AI assistant to collect data with CoinMarketCap Crypto Prices Scraper and help you work with the results. The scraper returns the data, and your assistant can then summarize it, compare records or prepare notes.
Connect your assistant through the Apify MCP server. MCP gives your assistant a way to find this scraper, run it and read the results. Follow the official setup and sign-in guide for your app.
Easier setup with an Apify plugin
If you use a supported coding assistant, the official Apify plugin can set up the connection for you. It connects your assistant to Apify and includes instructions for common tasks. Follow the guide for your particular app.
Use Apify AI in Console
Prefer to keep everything in Apify? Open Apify AI in Console and ask it to find Fetch Cat's CoinMarketCap Crypto Prices Scraper. You can describe the data you want and ask questions about the results.
Apify AI is currently in beta. It asks for confirmation before starting an Actor, and normal run charges apply.
Choose your assistant
- Claude and Claude Code (Anthropic): Apify setup guide.
- ChatGPT and Codex (OpenAI): Apify setup guides.
- Grok Bot (xAI): Apify plugin guide.
- Gemini CLI (Google): MCP server setup guide. Use the server URL below with the HTTP configuration supported by Gemini CLI.
Connect just this scraper
To keep your setup focused on this scraper, add this server configuration to a compatible MCP client:
{"mcpServers": {"apify": {"url": "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=fetch_cat/coinmarketcap-crypto-prices-scraper"}}}
Sign in to Apify when your client asks. If your client uses a Bearer token instead, follow its setup guide and keep the token in its secure configuration. Configuration formats vary by app, so use the linked guide if your client needs a different format.
Use Apify's general server
Already connected to the general Apify MCP server at https://mcp.apify.com? You can use it to find this scraper without adding another server. Ask your assistant to use CoinMarketCap Crypto Prices Scraper by Fetch Cat, or give it the identifier fetch_cat/coinmarketcap-crypto-prices-scraper.
Your assistant can check the available settings and retrieve the results from the returned run. If the run is still working, it should follow that run rather than start it again. Both connection options use Apify's hosted service.
Example requests
Try asking your assistant for the data you need:
-
“Get a snapshot of the 20 largest cryptocurrencies by market cap from CoinMarketCap. Show their USD prices, market caps and available update times in a table.”
-
“Look up Bitcoin and Ethereum on CoinMarketCap and collect their public descriptions and official links for a research sheet.”
-
“Fetch a fresh 10-coin ranking snapshot and compare it with the export I provide. Match the coins by their identifiers and highlight changed or unavailable values.”
Normal Apify charges apply. Check the live Pricing tab before asking your assistant to run a larger batch.
Pay with x402
If your AI agent has a funded wallet, it can pay for Apify usage through x402. This experimental option lets an agent use Apify without a conventional account.
Apify AGI provides a prepaid API token with a spending cap after payment. Your agent can use that token to run this scraper through the Apify API or an authenticated MCP connection.
Some MCP setups also support paying for each request directly. That is a different payment option, so check the official guide for its availability.
Follow the official guide for wallet setup, supported payment options and current terms. Apify handles the payments. Keep wallet keys and payment tokens in your agent's secure configuration.
Other ways for agents to pay
Apify also supports MPP for prepaid access through AGI and Skyfire for eligible Actors. If your agent already uses one of these, see the agentic payment guide to choose the right setup.
FAQ
Why are descriptions or official links empty?
Enable the corresponding inputs and use a currency-profile target. Public ranking data may not expose the same details as a profile page.
What happens when a target fails?
Inspect RUN_SUMMARY in the key-value store for status, saved-record, error and pending counts. PENDING_URLS, when present, lists targets left at the run deadline. Successful targets can still produce records when another target fails. If every target fails and no records are saved, the run fails. A completed run does not prove every requested target was collected.
Can I collect repeated market snapshots?
Yes, with an Apify schedule. Store earlier exports and compare coin identity with scrapedAt. The Actor does not keep a historical price database or calculate investment signals for you.
Is this the official CoinMarketCap API?
No. It is a public-data extraction workflow on Apify.
