Douban is China's largest community for film, book and music reviews, with millions of long-form, star-rated reviews written in Chinese. That makes it one of the best sources of labelled Chinese opinion text anywhere.

What you can use it for

In testing, the average review was about 1,800 characters long, and about 85% of reviews carry a star rating.

How to use it

1. Choose where to get reviews:
   • Recently updated reviews (default, largest volume): reads Douban's own public sitemaps, which list tens of thousands of recently updated reviews per file.
   • Most popular reviews or Newest reviews: Douban's public review feeds (a few hundred per category).
   • Only the review URLs I paste: fetch specific reviews, e.g. https://movie.douban.com/review/1000369/
2. Tick the categories you want: Movies & TV, Books, Music.
3. Set Max reviews.
4. Optional filters: minimum star rating and minimum review length, handy for training data.
5. Run it and download as JSON, CSV, Excel or via API.

To collect a different batch of reviews on a later run, raise Start at sitemap file (each file holds roughly 49,000 reviews).

Pricing

$5 per 1,000 reviews saved, pay per result. You are never charged for pages that fail, reviews filtered out by your settings, or anything beyond your Max reviews.

What it does not do

• It does not collect every review for one specific movie or book. Douban protects its title pages with a security check, and this Actor does not try to get around it. Use the sitemap or feed modes for volume, or paste review URLs you already have.
• It does not log in, use private data, or collect reviewers' profile details beyond their public display name.
• Short comments (短评) and group discussions are not included, only full reviews (影评, 书评, 乐评).

Is it legal?

This Actor reads only public review pages that Douban's robots.txt allows crawlers to visit, and finds them through the sitemaps Douban publishes for search engines. It does not log in or bypass any access control. Reviews are written by Douban users, so check copyright and data-protection rules (including China's PIPL) for your use case before republishing text. This Actor is not affiliated with Douban.
