Connecticut Business Search — Diversity Ownership Flags 🏛️

foXLabs US company series: Texas · New York · Federal contractors · FDIC banks · Nonprofits

🎉 Search Connecticut's business registry and get something most registers never publish: five diversity-ownership flags — woman, veteran, minority, LGBTQI+ and disability-owned — on every single row, alongside the usual identity, status and address. No key, no login. Built for supplier-diversity programmes, procurement teams with set-aside targets, and anyone verifying a Connecticut entity.

🔍 What is this Actor — and when should you use it?

The Connecticut Secretary of the State publishes its business registry as open data, and uniquely tags each business with self-reported ownership characteristics. This Actor searches it by company name or registration number and returns one clean row per entity: legal name, status, registration date, addresses, jurisdiction, and the five ownership flags.

Use it when you need: a diverse-supplier list that is verifiable rather than self-declared in a form; Connecticut counterparty verification; annual-report due dates for a portfolio; or the entity's name in its state of formation.

Use something else when: the company is registered in another state — use the Texas or New York Actor. All three share this schema.

🤖 Use with AI agents

Already on the Apify MCP server? Ask for this Actor by name: foxlabs/usa-connecticut-company-data.

Your agent can pay for its own runs. This Actor is pay-per-event with agentic payments, so an agent can discover it, run it and settle the bill over x402 (USDC on Base) or Skyfire — no Apify account or API token of its own. Billing is the same either way: per delivered company row.

Otherwise paste this into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP-enabled assistant:

Run the Apify actor foxlabs/usa-connecticut-company-data with
{"queries":["Priceline","Stanley Black & Decker"],"maxResultsPerQuery":10}
and flag which entities are woman-, veteran- or minority-owned.

✨ Features

  • 🌈 Five diversity-ownership flags on every row — woman, veteran, minority, LGBTQI+, disability
  • 🔎 Name or registration number in the same field
  • 🗂️ Status and legal form with the registry's raw values kept
  • 📮 Registered and mailing addresses as separate fields
  • 🌐 Jurisdiction, citizenship and name-in-state-of-formation for out-of-state entities
  • 📅 Annual report due date — a renewal signal for outreach timing

🎬 Quick Start

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/foxlabs~usa-connecticut-company-data/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"queries":["Priceline","Stanley Black & Decker","Indeed"],"maxResultsPerQuery":10}'

🚀 Getting Started (3 steps)

  1. Put names or registration numbers into queries. Both work in the same field.
  2. Set the breadth. maxResultsPerQuery caps matches per query.
  3. Run it. Rows arrive in the dataset; export to CSV/JSON/Excel or read them over the API.

📥 Input

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
queriesarray["Priceline","Stanley Black & Decker","Indeed"]Entity names or registration numbers
maxResultsPerQueryinteger10Cap on entities returned per query
maxConcurrencyinteger4Parallel requests
requestDelayMsinteger0Optional pause between requests
includeRawbooleanfalseAttach the untouched source record to each row
proxyConfigurationobjectproxy offThe open-data portal answers direct requests

Example — build a diverse-supplier shortlist:

{ "queries": ["construction"], "maxResultsPerQuery": 200 }

Then filter the output on isWomanOwned, isVeteranOwned, isMinorityOwned, isLgbtqiOwned or isDisabilityOwned.

Example — verify one entity:

{ "queries": ["1137850"], "maxResultsPerQuery": 1 }

📤 Output

The address components and annual-report date sit at 65% because a share of registry rows carry only a mailing address — mailingAddress is on every row and covers those. Columns the registry does not publish (tax number, dissolution date, industry, headcount, capital, website, e-mail, phone, officers) were removed rather than shipped permanently empty.

A real row from the default run:

{
"companyName": "PRICELINE.COM LLC",
"registrationNumber": "1137850",
"status": "active",
"statusRaw": "Active",
"legalForm": "LLC",
"incorporatedOn": "2014-04-01",
"address": "800 CONNECTICUT AVENUE, NORWALK, CT, 06854",
"city": "NORWALK",
"postalCode": "06854"
}

💼 Use cases

  • Supplier diversity — build a verifiable diverse-supplier list from a state register, not a questionnaire
  • Set-aside procurement — filter candidates by ownership flags before an RFP
  • Counterparty verification — confirm a Connecticut entity exists and is in good standing
  • Renewal-timed outreach — annualReportDueOn marks when a business is handling filings
  • Entity resolution — nameInStateOfFormation reconciles out-of-state names

❓ FAQ

Are the diversity flags verified by the state? They are self-reported by the business when filing and published by the registry. This Actor returns them exactly as published — use them to shortlist, then verify through your own certification process.

Do I need a Connecticut account or key? No. The registry is open data; no key, login or proxy.

Can I search by registration number? Yes — put the number in queries.

Why do some rows lack a street address? A share of filings carry only a mailing address; mailingAddress is present on every row.

Does it include dissolved businesses? status reflects the registry's standing value, so inactive entities appear with their status shown.

Which other states do you cover? Texas and New York, on the same schema.

🐛 Troubleshooting

A common name returns many entities. Narrow with the registration number, or filter the output by city.

No results for a company you know is in CT. It may be registered under a different legal name — try nameInStateOfFormation spellings, or the parent entity.

A run reports a source error. The state's open-data portal occasionally returns a temporary error; re-run and it clears.

⚠️ Trademark

The Connecticut Secretary of the State is a state agency. This Actor is an independent tool, is not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of Connecticut, and reads only publicly published registry data.

Connecticut publishes its business registry as open data so the public can verify businesses. The rows this Actor returns are company records — business information. The ownership flags are self-reported business attributes rather than personal data about named individuals; sole proprietorships may nonetheless appear under a person's name, so treat those rows accordingly. You remain responsible for how you use the output.
