This external validation strengthens their position with clients, partners, and other stakeholders who increasingly value bold, credible climate action.\n\n📄 Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/ewEX4b9M\n\n#SBTi #Sustainability #Construction #NetZero #ClimateAction #2Impact #ScienceBasedTargets #Decarbonisation",

The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has become one of the largest and most influential organisations providing guidance and validition for over 10,000 companies setting net zero targets, including some of the biggest companies in the world. Backed by the United Nations and WWF, and creator of the world's first corporate net zero standard in 2021, it has the reputation as one of the most credible voices on net zero.\"\n\nArticle continues here: https://lnkd.in/eBpwnCFK\n\n#netzero #sustainability #sbti #esg #esgreporting",

"text": "“Our Emissions Went Down!” — But… Did Someone Else Claim That Too?\nIn greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, accuracy isn’t just about getting the math right—it’s about making sure no one else is claiming your numbers.\nDouble counting occurs when two or more entities claim the same emissions or emission reductions—knowingly or not. It’s surprisingly common, especially in Scope 3, where supply chains overlap, data is fragmented, and boundaries are unclear.\nExample: A manufacturer reports reduced emissions from switching to biofuel. But the buyer of that product also claims the same reduction. Who gets the credit? If both do, the climate ledger is wrong—and misleading.\nThe result?\n 🔻 Inflated reduction claims\n 🔻 Distorted carbon footprints\n 🔻 Undermined trust in sustainability disclosures\nThis is more than a technical error—it’s a systemic credibility risk. Whether you're setting SBTi targets, preparing for CSRD compliance, or verifying your carbon neutrality claims, double counting can derail everything.\nTo tackle it, we need:\n ✅ Clear emission ownership rules across Scope 1, 2, and 3\n ✅ Transparent supplier-buyer data flows\n ✅ Robust contract-level allocation and exclusive claims\nAt Global Network for Zero, we ensure every emission is counted once, claimed once, and traced transparently. Because in the race to Net Zero, integrity is the real currency.\n#GHGAccounting #DoubleCounting #CarbonOffsets #Scope3 #NetZero #ClimateDisclosure #Sustainability #GHGChallengesSeries #CarbonFootprint #GHGProtocol #EmissionReduction #GreenReporting #SBTi #ClimateAction #CarbonIntegrity #ClimateRisk #ESGReporting #Decarbonization #SustainabilityLeadership #EnvironmentalAccounting #CorporateSustainability #TransparencyMatters #GNFZ",

"text": "🐄Net-zero beef in Oxfordshire🌱\n\nFAI Farms has pulled off something big: producing net-zero beef using regenerative grazing practices, meaning farm plants absorbed more carbon than cattle emitted. \n\nThey achieved this using Adaptive Multi-Paddock (AMP) grazing — a method that involves moving cattle frequently between small paddocks. This gives pastures time to recover, increases vegetation cover, and boosts soil health:\n✅ No synthetic fertilisers\n✅ Minimal bedding, thanks to year-round out-wintering\n✅ Stronger soils, more carbon sequestration\n\nWhy does this matter?\n\nCattle farming is one of the biggest climate challenges in food production:\n • Methane (CH₄) from digestion is 80x more potent than CO₂\n • Vast land use for grazing + feed crops (e.g. soy, corn)\n • Overgrazing = erosion, compaction, degraded soils\n\n💡 This pioneering work was sponsored by McDonald's\n\nThat’s significant because McDonald’s has a huge environmental footprint — estimated at ~60 million tonnes of CO₂e annually. That’s twice that of competitors like Burger King and KFC — and comparable to American Airlines. ✈️\n\nThis is due to its reliance on beef and a vast, complex global supply chain.\n\nBut let’s give credit where it’s due:\n👏 McDonald’s has set a 2050 net zero goal (validated by SBTi — the gold standard)\n👏 Its UK & Ireland division is pushing to hit net zero even earlier — by 2040\n👏 It's funding studies like this one, showing what's possible\n\n🟢 Now the challenge is scale. Can McDonald’s roll out regenerative grazing practices like AMP across its global beef supply?\n\nThat could be a genuine step toward transforming beef from a climate problem… into part of the solution.\n\n#NetZero #RegenerativeAgriculture #Sustainability #ClimateAction #FoodSystems #McDonalds #GHG #Beef #CarbonFarming #AgTech #SBTi",

This isn’t goodbye, just see you later.\n \nIt had long been a dream of mine to work for a global company that would reconnect me to my childhood roots in Kenya, Indonesia, and beyond, and I did just that. I traveled to some of the most remote corners of the world, learning firsthand from coffee farmers and their communities, and deepening my understanding of agronomy, sustainability, and the complexity of supply chains. This experience ignited something in me. \n \nWhile I’m leaving with some sadness, I’m filled mostly with deep gratitude, a sharper perspective, and a lot of curiosity about what’s next. Over the years, living between worlds and working across cultures, sectors, and departments has shaped how I see transformation: it only sticks when people feel it. \n \nMost recently, I led strategic sustainability initiatives at Sucafina, a global coffee trading company working across 50+ countries. My role involved developing our transformation framework, designing our first sustainability leadership program, preparing the business for CSRD, and developing a carbon strategy aligned with SBTi. \n\nThroughout this journey, colleagues have described me as a thoughtful, deeply human professional — someone who builds consensus, brings strategy to life, and helps people see their role in creating meaningful change. One put it as: “May doesn’t just drive change — she cultivates it and helps people understand why it matters to them.”\n \nWhat’s next? I’m looking for a new opportunity — whether in-house or as a strategic partner — where I can drive transformation through sustainability and leadership within teams, organisations and value chains. If you know of an opportunity or someone I should speak to, I’d love to connect.\n \nFeel free to share this post with your network. \n\n#OpenToWork #Sustainability #Leadership #Transformation #SystemsThinking #PurposeDrivenWork #Coffee #Agriculture #Food #valuechain #supplychain #csrd #carbon #sbti",

While easy to implement, it’s imprecise. Two companies can spend the same amount on “logistics” but have wildly different emissions.\n\nActivity-based accounting digs deeper, calculating emissions based on actual data. Like kilometers traveled, kilograms of goods shipped, or kilowatt-hours consumed. It’s more complex, often more time consuming to collect the relevant data, but far more accurate.\n\nThis matters a lot for companies with Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments. As scrutiny tightens, only robust, traceable data will stand up to audits and stakeholder expectations.\n\n✅ More accurate data\n✅ Clearer reduction strategies\n✅ Greater credibility in climate claims\n\nThe future of carbon accounting is evidence-based, and it starts with knowing exactly what you emit. Not just what you spend.\n\n#Carbonaccounting #Sustainability #NetZero #SBTi #Scope3 #Climateaction #ESG",

"text": "“Just use the GHG Protocol — it’s the global standard.”\nThat’s what I was told early on. But once I got deep into corporate inventories, product LCAs, and carbon credit disclosures, I learned the hard truth:\n 📌 There’s no one-size-fits-all methodology\n 📌 Misapplying frameworks leads to costly errors and compliance risks\nYou may remember the earlier series we did on climate standards—GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, ISO 14067, SBTi, PAS 2050, and others. But knowing the frameworks isn’t enough. You need to know when and how to use them—without overlap.\nWhen organizations blur the boundaries between standards, here’s what happens:\n ❌ Double counting, especially across Scope 3\n ❌ Audit failures due to inconsistent assumptions\n ❌ Target misalignment, making SBTi approval nearly impossible\n ❌ Increased risk of greenwashing accusations\nCase in Point:\n A tech firm used ISO 14067 to publish a product carbon footprint—then fed the same LCA data into its corporate GHG inventory under GHG Protocol.\n ❌ Result: Scope 3 emissions were counted twice.\n ✅ Solution: Treat product LCAs and corporate inventories as separate but parallel systems, with clear methodological boundaries.\n📌 Takeaway: Climate frameworks are not a menu of interchangeable options—they’re a map. Each serves a different purpose, aligned to a different destination. As an ISO 14064 Lead Auditor, learning to apply each standard with precision has helped me resolve some of the toughest cross-sectoral GHG challenges.\nHave you faced similar confusion across frameworks? "text": "Net Zero by 2050? Technically achievable for the chemical sector—but only if we decarbonize today\n\nAnd this matters beyond chemicals: the chemical industry underpins the pharmaceutical industry, making decarbonization essential for both.\nWaiting for the perfect technology? That’s not strategy - it’s a risk.\nWe already have the tools—carbon capture and storage (CCUS), green hydrogen, and electrification. It’s time for bold decisions, not delays.\n👉 Net Zero by mid-century will only be a reality for the primary chemical sector (and by extension, pharmaceutical) if we decarbonize—today, not on 2049.\n\nThis is a key takeaway from the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Net-Zero Industry report, which emphasizes the need for immediate action in hard-to-abate sectors.\n\n📖 Read our full article here: https://lnkd.in/dJAjc5-4\n\n#NetZero #ChemicalIndustry #ClimateAction #Decarbonization #Sustainability #CCUS #SBTi #PositiveOrganizations #TheTimeIsNow #YourESGPartner #PersonalizedStrategiesMeasurableResults #WorldEconomicForum #ChemicalAndPharmaceuticalIndustry #HardToAbateSectors #GreenManufacturing",

That’s why we built the Field Summary Analysis (FSA) system.\n\nFSA 1.0 gave us the first black-and-white benchmark for how crops are grown tracking nitrogen use, pesticide load, water consumption, and Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ). It was a breakthrough for input transparency. But the next step is here.\n\nFSA 2.0 converts those agronomic wins into carbon data field by field. It translates reductions in nitrogen, water, and chemical inputs into measurable Scope 3 CO₂e savings for the companies who buy, sell, and serve our food.\n\nThis isn’t a model. This isn’t a guess.\n 👉 It’s real-world, boots-on-the-ground data.\n 👉 It’s traceable by QR code.\n 👉 It’s the bridge between regenerative farmers and the supply chains that want better.\n\nWe created FSA 2.0 because regenerative agriculture deserves a seat at the table. "text": "Think Your GHG Inventory Is Done and Dusted? Think Again.\nToo many organizations treat GHG inventories as a one-time annual task—finalize the numbers, attach them to a report, and move on. But in today’s climate governance landscape, static inventories are a liability.\nHere’s the reality: GHG inventories must be living documents, continuously refined to reflect new guidance, science, and regulatory expectations.\nWhy? Because the entire ESG landscape is evolving, fast:\n 🔹 SBTi is now enforcing FLAG targets and demanding deeper granularity across Scope 3 categories.\n 🔹 CSRD requires double materiality, third-party assurance, and alignment with ESRS.\n 🔹 ISSB is consolidating climate disclosures under IFRS S2, pushing for integration with financial reporting.\n 🔹 TCFD? It’s no longer standalone—it’s being absorbed into ISSB and CSRD mandates.\nStill relying on last year’s methods or assumptions? You’re not just outdated—you may be non-compliant.\nThis is more than a reporting update. It’s a strategic pivot. Organizations that treat their GHG inventory as a dynamic risk and decision-making tool—not just a compliance checkbox—will be positioned to lead on climate accountability, investor confidence, and supply chain resilience.\nOver the past few months, I’ve broken down these frameworks individually. "text": "The GHG Inventory Looks Great — Until Verification Begins\nYou’ve wrapped up the emissions reporting. The inventory is formatted, charts look good, and everything seems in order. But the moment a verifier steps in? Things unravel fast.\nI’ve seen this happen across sectors—what we call the “Verification Black Hole.”\nHere’s what it often looks like:\n 📁 Spreadsheets floating around with no version control\n 📉 Emission factors copied from last year, with no documentation\n 🧾 Raw data? Nobody remembers where it came from\n 🚩 Red flags raised in previous audits? Still unresolved\nThis isn’t just a reporting hiccup—it’s a systemic failure in GHG data governance. And in a world where climate disclosures face increasing scrutiny from investors, regulators, and frameworks like CSRD, ISSB, and SBTi, these gaps are no longer acceptable.\nWhat sets GHG Verifiers apart?\n They’re not financial auditors. They apply scientific and methodological scrutiny to ensure:\n✅ The quantification approach is aligned with GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and IPCC guidelines\n ✅ Boundaries, baselines, and activity data are clearly defined and traceable\n ✅ Uncertainty is transparently assessed and material risks disclosed\n ✅ Emission factors and calculations follow international best practice, not assumptions\nVerification is not a formality. It’s a credibility filter.\nThat’s why verification-readiness should be embedded from Day One—not treated as a fire drill in the final stretch. Build defensible inventories. Maintain source data trails. And enable reviewers to do their job without chaos.\nBecause in the end, a polished inventory means nothing without proof.\n#GHGAccounting #Verification #GHGProtocol #NetZero #CarbonFootprint #ISO14064 #LeadVerifier #AuditReady #ClimateDisclosure #SustainabilityReporting #CarbonAccounting #GHGChallengesSeries #EnvironmentalIntegrity #DataGovernance #GHGVerification #ClimateStrategy #SBTi #CSRD #GHGInventory #ESGReporting #CredibleCarbon #GHGAssurance #GNFZ",

"text": "Carbon Credit vs. Carbon Offset: What’s the Difference — and Why It Matters\nThese two terms are often used interchangeably, but they’re not the same—and confusing them can lead to reporting errors, credibility gaps, and compliance risks.\nLet’s break it down:\n🔹 Carbon Credit\n A carbon credit is a certified, tradable instrument representing 1 metric ton of CO₂ (or equivalent) that has been reduced or removed from the atmosphere. These are issued under verified standards such as the Verified Carbon Standard or Gold Standard, following MRV protocols (Measurement, Reporting, Verification). Credits can be sold or traded in compliance or voluntary markets, and are often used by organizations looking to meet regulatory or net-zero targets.\n🔹 Carbon Offset\n A carbon offset refers to the underlying project or action that reduces or removes carbon emissions to compensate for emissions elsewhere. It’s often used informally to describe climate-positive activities—such as planting trees, investing in renewable energy, or improving energy efficiency—even when not verified or monetized.\nKey Distinction:\n 💡 A carbon offset is the action.\n 📄 A carbon credit is the certified result that can be quantified, verified, and traded.\nUnderstanding the difference is essential for:\n ✅ Building credible climate claims\n ✅ Avoiding greenwashing\n ✅ Aligning with frameworks like GHG Protocol, SBTi, ISO 14064, and CSRD\nIn short: Not all offsets generate credits, but all verified credits must originate from legitimate offset actions. Both play a role in climate strategy, but they must be applied and communicated accurately.\n#CarbonCredits #CarbonOffsets #CarbonAccounting #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GHGProtocol #ClimateDisclosure #EnvironmentalResponsibility #NetZero #ClimateFinance #GreenEconomy #EmissionReduction #CarbonMarkets #Decarbonization #ClimateStrategy #ESG #CorporateSustainability #CarbonNeutrality #ClimateChange #SBTi #VoluntaryCarbonMarket #CleanEnergy",

"text": "What does it really take to build a business case for value chain decarbonization?\n\nThat question was front and center this week as 12 Combient companies came together for the final session of Combient Pure’s Scope 3 Decarbonization Accelerator. Alongside exploring concrete tools for costing out and financing Scope 3 work, here are some of the most powerful insights from the discussions:\n\n🔍 The business case is complex: From navigating nuances between CAPEX and OPEX, to aligning incentives down to the end user, and addressing not only costs but also market access in the supply chain, Scope 3 work challenges traditional business thinking.\n\n🔗 Link finances to climate: Concrete sustainability-linked financing instruments are already reality, while internal decision-making tools like internal carbon pricing can drive transparency, shape investment decisions, and generate internal funds for further Scope 3 action.\n\n💡 Think beyond short-term ROI: The business case for value chain decarbonization should consider not just the direct profitability of individual actions, but also the broader strategic benefits, from supply chain resilience to customer engagement and long-term competitiveness. \n\n🤝 Orchestration is essential: Preparing for a decarbonized economy means coordinating efforts across functions and the value chain, and framing the value(s) of decarbonization in ways that speak to many different priorities. Business leaders are in a critical position to ensure the company can begin treating climate work as a strategic imperative—not a side project.\n\nThe takeaway? Value chain decarbonization isn’t just about individual actions — it's about shaping a business fit for the future.\n\nThanks to our speakers Olle Billinger (SEB), Majken Tottenhammar, Fredrik Lindblad and Johan Jacobsson (PwC Sweden)!\n\n#Scope3 #Decarbonization #NetZero #SustainabilityLeadership #CombientPure #ClimateStrategy #InternalCarbonPricing #ESG #BusinessTransformation #SBTi",

One of the most overlooked factors? The absence of a qualified Net Zero partner.\nWhen GHG accounting is done in silos or based on incomplete data, even the most well-intentioned net zero commitments become theoretical. Here’s what we frequently see across industries:\n🔸 Facilities and sustainability teams stretched thin, lacking bandwidth or training on standards like GHG Protocol or ISO 14064\n 🔸 Scope 3 emissions either ignored or estimated using broad, inaccurate assumptions\n 🔸 Poor data governance—no clarity on departmental ownership or data flow\n 🔸 Inconsistent baselines that make future targets questionable from the start\nNet Zero isn’t just a goal—it’s a system. And it needs proper architecture. That means embedding carbon accounting into your operations, clarif
