Why some organizations have no financials

Small nonprofits (generally under $50,000 in gross receipts) file the Form 990-N e-Postcard, which contains no financial detail at all. Those organizations still appear in results with their EIN, name, location and classification, but revenue and asset fields are null. That is a property of IRS filing rules, not a gap in the actor — expect it for roughly half of a broad keyword search, and almost none of a search restricted to large organizations.

Financials also lag: the most recent filing available is typically one to two years behind the current date, because that is when the IRS releases machine-readable data.

Pricing

Pay per result. Each organization returned counts as one result, including the second request the actor makes to pull that organization's financials.

Notes

  • Data comes from ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer, built on public IRS Form 990 filings.
  • Officer compensation is the figure the organization itself reported on the 990; it excludes some benefits and deferred pay.
  • This is an unofficial actor and is not affiliated with ProPublica or the IRS.
