Every field name is stable and self-descriptive by design — this output is meant to be just as usable by a script, a spreadsheet, or an AI agent reading it directly as it is by a person.

WARN Act layoff check — how it works

• Runs automatically whenever an employer is given and includeLayoffCheck is true (default).
• Live only — each search queries the state's own official source at request time. Nothing is pre-scraped, cached, or refreshed on a schedule; there is no stale-data risk because there is no stored data at all.
• Official sources only, one per covered state:
  • Texas — Texas Workforce Commission (data.texas.gov, Socrata open-data API)
  • Illinois — Illinois Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (illinoisworknet.com IEBS API)
  • New Jersey — NJ Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development (nj.gov official archive)
• checked_states always lists exactly which states were queried, so an empty layoffs array is distinguishable from "we didn't check" — the actor never implies coverage it doesn't have.
• Coverage is intentionally limited to states with a genuine live, filterable endpoint. Most other states only publish static PDFs or dashboards with no server-side search, which would require either a separate scheduled full-database sync or re-downloading each state's entire archive on every search — neither fits this actor's live-only, zero-maintenance design, so those states are left out rather than faked. Coverage grows over time as more states add queryable public data.

• H-1B salary source: public DOL LCA disclosure data (h1bdata.info) — free, no key, no proxy.
• Shows the filed base wage (offered salary). Like all H-1B data it excludes stock, bonuses and other compensation, which are not part of the public filing.
• Tip: search a role by several common titles — employers title the same job differently.
• Tip: WARN company names are exactly as each state filed them (e.g. a logistics subcontractor's own name, not always the parent brand) — a 0 layoff count means none were found under that exact name in the covered states, not that the company has never had a layoff anywhere.
