Cheaper drop-in Reddit scraper: same input, same output fields

Already using a Reddit scraper on Apify? Paste your existing input JSON here and it runs as is. Input names (startUrls, searches, maxItems, maxPostCount, maxComments, skipComments, sort, time…) and output fields (id, parsedId, url, username, title, communityName, body, html, createdAt, dataType…) match the most-used Reddit scrapers in the Store, so your integrations, Zapier/Make flows and spreadsheets keep working, at a fraction of the price.

No login, no Reddit API key, no browser.

Price comparison

Price per 1,000 results10,000 results
This Actor$0.80$8
Typical cheap Reddit scrapers$1.15 to $1.49$11.50 to $14.90
Most popular Reddit scraper (lite)$4.00$40

You pay $0.80 per 1,000 saved items (posts, comments, communities, users) plus $0.001 per run start. Error rows are free. No monthly rental.

What you can scrape

  • Subreddits: https://www.reddit.com/r/pasta/, and any sort: /r/pasta/new/, /r/pasta/top/?t=week, /r/popular/
  • Posts with comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/pasta/comments/vwi6jx/... (up to about 500 comments per post)
  • Users: https://www.reddit.com/user/spez/ (their latest posts and comments), /user/spez/comments/, /user/spez/submitted/
  • Search: keywords in searches, optionally inside one subreddit (searchCommunityName), sorted by relevance, hot, top, new or comments, with a time filter
  • Community search: find subreddits by keyword (searchCommunities)

Each subreddit or search post is followed by its comments (set skipComments to turn that off).

Input example

{
"startUrls": [
{ "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/pasta/" },
{ "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/pasta/comments/vwi6jx/pasta_peperoni_and_ricotta_cheese_how_to_make/" }
],
"maxItems": 100,
"maxPostCount": 10,
"maxComments": 10
}

Search instead of URLs:

{
"searches": ["best pasta sauce"],
"searchCommunityName": "Cooking",
"sort": "top",
"time": "year",
"maxItems": 200,
"maxPostCount": 50,
"maxComments": 3
}

As with other Reddit scrapers, the search fields are ignored when Start URLs are filled in (set ignoreStartUrls to run searches anyway).

Good to know

  • Vote counts are not included. Reddit now blocks its JSON API for logged-out visitors, so this Actor reads Reddit's public feeds, the same source other scrapers use in their default fast mode. upVotes, numberOfComments, upVoteRatio, over18, flair and userId are present for compatibility but null. Comment parentId (reply threading) is not available either.
  • Not supported: comment search, user search, media search and leaderboard pages. Reddit does not serve them without login. The input switches are accepted so old inputs don't break; a warning is logged.
  • Limits: Reddit lists stop at about 1,000 posts per feed, and a post's comment feed returns up to about 500 comments. Combine sorts (new, top, hot) or searches to go further.
  • Proxy: datacenter Apify Proxy is the default and is all Reddit needs. A copied RESIDENTIAL setting is switched to datacenter automatically.
  • NSFW: includeNSFW applies to searches. Start URLs return whatever the page shows.
  • Private, banned or quarantined subreddits return an error row (free) instead of failing the run.

FAQ

Is scraping Reddit legal? This Actor only reads public pages that anyone can open without logging in. Personal data in the results (usernames, comment text) may be protected by GDPR and similar laws; only scrape and store what you have a legitimate reason to process.

Can I schedule it? Yes. Use Apify schedules, for example /r/yourbrand/new/ every hour with postDateLimit set, to monitor mentions.
