Texas New Business Leads (Sales Tax Permits)

Every week thousands of Texas businesses receive a new sales tax permit. This Actor turns the Comptroller's official list into ready-to-use leads: business name, address, industry and permit date, filtered to your city and trade.

What you get

• Fresh volume: the Comptroller issued between 3,880 and 4,593 new sales tax permits per week over the four complete weeks ending September 14, 2026 (all permit types). The count varies week to week.
• Each record has business name, legal name, address, city, ZIP, NAICS industry code and permit issue date. Business entities only by default.
• Filters for date, city, ZIP and industry, plus an alert mode that returns only permits you have not seen yet.

Quick start

1. Choose a date range: the last N days (default 30) or an exact start date.
2. Add filters if you want them: cities, ZIP prefixes, NAICS prefixes, and a result limit.
3. Click Start, then export the results.

Worked example: city Austin, NAICS prefix 722 (restaurants and food service), last 7 days. In the week we measured, that search matched 26 permits, which costs about $0.10 at $0.004 each. Your count will differ week to week.

Alert mode: only new records

Run the Actor on a schedule and get only the permits issued since your last run. The first run returns normal results; every run after that returns only new permits. You pay only for new results, so a run with nothing new costs nothing.

Set it up in three steps:

1. Create a Task in Apify Console with all your filters (city, ZIP, NAICS).
2. In the Task input, set "Alert mode: only permits new since" to lastRun.
3. Go to the Task Schedule tab, click Add Schedule, and choose daily or weekly.

Data source and compliance

The data is official open data from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, read through its public API without login. Only registered business entities are returned by default. The Actor never returns phone numbers, personal names or personal details of sole proprietors.

FAQ

How current is the data? Each run queries the live dataset, so results are as current as the Comptroller's latest update (schedule on https://data.texas.gov/dataset/jrea-zgmq).

Why do some records have missing fields? Some fields, such as first sales date and legal address, are optional in the source and come back as null.

What do NAICS codes mean? The North American Industry Classification System. Common prefixes: 722 restaurants and food service, 44 and 45 retail trade, 8121 personal care. Full list at census.gov.

How does alert mode remember which permits to skip? A permit counts as new if its issue date is on or after the previous run date. The Actor looks back 7 days before the last run by default (up to 30) to catch permits the source posts late, and never charges twice for the same permit. It saves the run timestamp and a list of delivered permit ids to a named key value store in your Apify account called alert-texas-sales-tax-permits-{code}, where {code} is your 8-character store identifier. On the next run, it checks this list and skips any permit it has already sent you. Permit ids not seen for 60 days are pruned automatically. To start over and receive all permits again, delete that store in Storage in Apify Console, or set a custom alert mode stable state name to use a different store.

Can I use this for cold outreach? Yes, within CAN-SPAM (email) and TCPA (phone) rules. This is public business data, not a mailing list, so contact the business, never a personal residence or personal number.
