Funding Signals — Recently Funded Companies to Sales Intelligence (AI)
Find recently funded US companies the moment they file with the SEC — and turn each raise into a buying signal. This Actor reads the official SEC EDGAR Form D feed (the notice companies file when they raise private capital) and adds the layer that matters: who just got funded, how much, the named executives to contact, an AI read of what they'll spend on, and a personalized outreach opener.
No Crunchbase. No anti-bot. No API key. Just official, public data + built-in AI.
Why "just funded" is the strongest buying signal
A company that just raised money is about to spend it — on headcount, tooling, infrastructure, agencies and services. Catch them in the first days after the raise and you're early, relevant, and ahead of competitors.
Most funding scrapers point at Crunchbase — which means anti-bot walls, breakage, gray-area scraping of a paywalled site, and often a required API key. This Actor uses the SEC's own public Form D filings: official, structured, free, and impossible to "block."
| Crunchbase scrapers | Funding Signals (AI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Company name, raise amount, date | ✅ | ✅ |
| Official, never-blocked source | ❌ (anti-bot) | ✅ (SEC EDGAR) |
| Named executives / directors | ⚠️ | ✅ (from the filing) |
| Filter funds vs operating companies | ❌ | ✅ |
| Buying-intent summary + sales angle | ❌ | ✅ |
| "Who to contact first" suggestion | ❌ | ✅ |
| Personalized outreach opener | ❌ | ✅ |
| Works with no API key | ❌ | ✅ |
Pairs perfectly with AI Lead Enricher and Hiring Signals: find the funding signal here → enrich the company → reach out.
Input
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
daysBack | integer | Find filings from the last N days (1–365). Default 14. Ignored if you set both dates below. |
dateFrom / dateTo | string | Explicit window (YYYY-MM-DD). Overrides daysBack when both are set. |
keywords | array | Keep only companies whose name contains one of these words (e.g. AI, health, robotics). Empty = all. |
industries | array | Keep only these Form D industry groups (e.g. Technology, Health Care, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Energy). Empty = all. |
states | array | Two-letter US state codes for the company's location (e.g. CA, NY, TX, MA). Empty = all. |
excludeInvestmentFunds | boolean | Skip pooled / other investment funds (VC funds, SPVs) and keep only operating companies. Default true. |
minOfferingAmount | integer | Only keep raises at or above this USD amount. 0 = no minimum. |
maxCompanies | integer (1–500) | How many funded companies to return. Default 50. |
aiSignals | boolean | Turn on built-in AI analysis. Default true. |
offerDescription | string | What you sell — the AI ties each raise to your offer and writes a personalized opener. |
aiLanguage | string | Language for AI text. Default English. |
proxyConfiguration | object | Optional. The SEC API is public and usually needs no proxy. |

How it works
- Queries the SEC EDGAR full-text search for Form D filings in your date window.
- Pre-filters cheaply by state and name keyword to stay fast and polite to the SEC.
- Reads each filing's official
primary_doc.xml→ company, industry, offering amount, amount sold, dates, and named related persons (executives / directors). - Applies your filters (industry, minimum amount, exclude investment funds).
- Runs one AI call per company to derive a buying-intent summary, a sales angle, the best contact to reach, and a personalized opener tied to your offer.
- Saves one clean
funding_signalrow per company.
The SEC EDGAR APIs are public and rate-limited; the Actor paces its requests automatically.
Use cases
- Sales & SDR teams — build a daily list of freshly funded accounts that are about to spend.
- Agencies & service providers — reach newly funded companies before competitors do.
- Recruiters — funded companies hire; get in early with the named executives.
- Investors & analysts — track private-capital raises by industry, geography and size.
- Data enrichment — feed funded companies into your CRM or the AI Lead Enricher.
FAQ
Where does the data come from? The official SEC EDGAR system — specifically Form D, the notice a company files when it sells securities in a private (exempt) offering. It's public, structured and free.
Do I need an API key for the AI? No. The AI runs on Apify's built-in model — there's no OpenAI / OpenRouter key to manage.
Why Form D instead of Crunchbase? Form D is official and can't be blocked, never goes stale, and includes the named executives/directors of the issuer. Crunchbase scrapers fight anti-bot systems and often need a paid key.
Does it cover non-US companies? Form D is a US filing. Foreign companies raising capital in the US also file, but coverage is strongest for US-based issuers.
Why are some raises "indefinite"?
Some issuers file an indefinite total offering amount. The Actor flags these with offeringAmountIsIndefinite and still returns the amount sold.
Can I turn the AI off?
Yes. Set aiSignals to false for just the structured funding data with no AI cost.
Related Actors — build a full pipeline
This Actor is the "find the freshly-funded account" step. Chain it with the others:
- Find the funding → enrich the company: Run Funding Signals (this Actor) to find companies that just raised, then feed them into the AI Lead Enricher for emails, socials and a personalized cold-email opener. Önce sinyal bul → sonra enrich et.
- Stack your signals: Combine with Hiring Signals — Job Board Scraper + AI to see which funded companies are also hiring aggressively (double the intent).
Workflow: Funding Signals (intent) → AI Lead Enricher (contact + opener) → your CRM / sequencer.
