Ofsted Reports Scraper searches Ofsted's official "Find an inspection report" service for schools, nurseries, childminders and other providers in England. For each provider it returns the URN, category, address, current rating, latest report date and full inspection history, with a link to every report PDF. It is built for education researchers, property and relocation sites, childcare platforms and data teams, and it costs USD 5.00 per 1,000 provider records on the FREE tier (USD 4.00 per 1,000 on GOLD).

Search by provider name, URN or keyword, or paste official provider page URLs. A run returns up to 500 providers.

What data does the Ofsted scraper return?

Each dataset row is one Ofsted provider.

FieldWhat it contains
nameProvider name, for example Cherry Oak School
urnOfsted unique reference number, for example 103626 (early-years URNs can look like EY551636)
categoryProvider type from search results, for example Special School, Secondary, Independent School or Childcare on Non-Domestic Premises
addressAddress as Ofsted publishes it
currentRatingSingle-word grade when Ofsted shows one (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, Inadequate), otherwise null
latestReportDatePublication date of the latest report
inspectionsEvery report on the provider page: title, rating, publishedDate and pdfUrl
providerUrlOfficial provider page on reports.ofsted.gov.uk
scrapedAt, warningsRetrieval time and any per-record notes

A SUMMARY record shows records collected, events charged, search pages read, provider pages attempted and warnings.

How do I search Ofsted reports by school name, URN or area?

Put one or more terms into Search queries: a name (Oak School), a URN (103626) or a keyword with a place (nursery Leeds). Each query reads up to maxPagesPerQuery result pages of 10 providers each, in Ofsted's best-match order.

{
"searchQueries": ["nursery Leeds", "103626"],
"maxPagesPerQuery": 3,
"maxResults": 40
}

For known providers, paste their official pages instead. These are fetched directly, so category is null because it only appears in search results:

{
"searchQueries": [],
"providerUrls": [{ "url": "https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/25/103626" }],
"maxResults": 1
}

Searches cover providers Ofsted lists as open. Multi-word searches use Ofsted's own matching and can include partial matches. "Oak School" finds every Oak School but also other providers, so use URNs or exact URLs when you need precision. The default input searches Oak School over 2 pages and returns up to 20 providers.

Why is currentRating empty for some schools?

Ofsted shows no single-word overall grade for many recent inspections, including state schools inspected under its new report-card framework. In those cases currentRating is null, and rating is null on the matching inspection. The Actor does not read the report-card evaluation areas. Each inspection's pdfUrl links to the full report. Older reports keep their grades, so a school's history can show Good in 2024 and no grade in 2025.

When should I use this Actor, and when not?

Use it when you need Ofsted inspection history as data: building school or nursery comparison pages, adding inspection dates and report links to a property or relocation site, tracking when providers in an area were last inspected, or giving an AI assistant current Ofsted facts with links.

Use something else when:

  • You need US school ratings and demographics: GreatSchools Scraper or NCES School Lookup.
  • You need UK restaurant hygiene ratings: UK Food Hygiene Ratings Scraper.
  • You need the text inside the PDFs, report-card evaluation areas, Parent View survey results, or schools in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The Actor returns report links for providers in England only.

Use it from an AI assistant

Ofsted Reports Scraper works from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client through Apify's MCP server. Add it with https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=muhammadafzal/uk-ofsted-inspections-scraper, then ask, for example: "Find nurseries in Leeds on Ofsted and list each one's URN, latest report date and report PDF link."

Run it with the API

JavaScript:

import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor('muhammadafzal/uk-ofsted-inspections-scraper').call({
searchQueries: ['Oak School'],
maxPagesPerQuery: 2,
maxResults: 20,
includeAllReports: true,
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
for (const p of items) console.log(p.urn, p.name, p.currentRating, p.inspections.length);

Python:

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("muhammadafzal/uk-ofsted-inspections-scraper").call(
run_input={"searchQueries": ["primary school Bristol"], "maxPagesPerQuery": 5, "maxResults": 50}
)
for p in client.dataset(run.default_dataset_id).iterate_items():
latest = p["inspections"][0]["pdfUrl"] if p["inspections"] else None
print(p["urn"], p["name"], p["latestReportDate"], latest)

What does the output look like?

Two records parsed from the live Ofsted pages on 2026-10-26 (inspection lists shortened):

publishedDate is the date the report was published, often several weeks after the inspection itself. Inspection titles appear as Ofsted shows them. For some provider types, such as independent schools, the title includes the inspection date, for example 10 February 2026: Standard inspection: (PDF).

Pricing: how much does Ofsted data cost?

Ofsted Reports Scraper uses pay-per-event pricing. Platform usage is included in the event prices.

EventFREEBRONZESILVERGOLDPLATINUM / DIAMOND
Ofsted provider record (one dataset row)USD 0.005001USD 0.004875USD 0.00475USD 0.004USD 0.004
Actor start (per started GB of allocated memory)USD 0.006251USD 0.006094USD 0.005938USD 0.005USD 0.005

Worked totals on the FREE tier at the default 512 MB memory (one start event):

  • Default run, Oak School over 2 pages (up to 20 providers): 20 × USD 0.005001 + USD 0.006251 = USD 0.1063
  • Largest run, 500 providers: 500 × USD 0.005001 + USD 0.006251 = USD 2.5068

Providers are charged only after their record is saved. A search with no results costs only the start fee.

What are the limits?

  • 500 providers per run (maxResults, default 25), up to 10 search queries and 100 provider URLs.
  • Pagination: maxPagesPerQuery is 1–20 (default 2), with 10 providers per page.
  • One page at a time. Search and provider pages are fetched sequentially with 2 retries, with at least requestDelayMs between requests (250–5,000 ms, default 350).
  • Search-only mode: set includeAllReports to false to return search-page fields with an empty inspections list and a warning. The price per record is the same.
  • No PDF parsing. The Actor returns official report links, not the text inside them.
  • Duplicates removed by provider URL.

FAQ

Is this official Ofsted data?

Yes. Every record comes from Ofsted's public reports service at reports.ofsted.gov.uk, and every PDF link points to Ofsted's own file server.

Can I look up a school by URN?

Yes. Put the URN in Search queries, for example 103626, or paste the provider page URL into Provider URLs.

Does it cover nurseries and childminders?

Yes, when they appear in Ofsted's search. Search by name or by a keyword plus place, for example nursery Leeds. Ofsted does not publish the address of some people and organisations, such as some childminders, so those fields can be missing.

How current is the data?

Every run reads the live site. latestReportDate and each publishedDate show when Ofsted published the report.

Does it return report card grades?

No. It returns single-word grades where Ofsted shows them and null otherwise. Report-card evaluation areas are in the linked PDFs and on the provider page.

Can I get every provider in England?

Not in one run. Each run returns up to 500 providers, so split by area, provider type keyword or URN list.

This Actor reads public pages on reports.ofsted.gov.uk and does not bypass authentication, CAPTCHAs or access controls. It is independent of Ofsted and not endorsed by it. Ofsted pages can include the names and addresses of childcare providers. Handle that personal data under UK GDPR, and keep the report links when you republish inspection outcomes.
