UniProt Scraper
Searches the UniProt protein knowledgebase through its public REST API. No login, no proxy, no browser.
Input
| Field | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
query | string | Required. UniProt query syntax, e.g. gene:INS, organism_id:9606. |
reviewedOnly | boolean | Restrict to curated Swiss-Prot entries. Default true. |
maxItems | integer | Cap on proteins returned. Default 25. |
Output
One row per protein: accession, entryName, proteinName, genes,
organism, commonName, taxonId, sequenceLength, molecularWeight,
isReviewed, entryType, uniprotUrl.
Notes
reviewedOnlymatters enormously. UniProt holds ~250 million automatic TrEMBL entries against ~570,000 curated Swiss-Prot ones, so an unfiltered query is dominated by unreviewed predictions. It defaults totrue.entryTypecontains the word "reviewed" in both cases — the unreviewed label reads "UniProtKB unreviewed (TrEMBL)". A naive substring check therefore marks everything reviewed;isReviewedexcludes the unreviewed spelling explicitly.- Protein names live under three different keys depending on entry type (recommended, submission, alternative); all three are tried in that order.
