Pulls the US national debt "to the penny" from the official Treasury Fiscal Data API, split into debt held by the public and intragovernmental holdings. No login, no proxy, no browser.

Notes
- Every amount arrives as a string upstream (
"40093343468150.50") and is converted to a number here, so the series can be charted or differenced without cleaning it first. - Amounts are large enough to be worth a caution: they exceed JavaScript's safe integer range only above ~9 quadrillion, so today's figures are exact as doubles, but a cents-level difference of two values should still be treated carefully.
- The date parts are zero-padded strings upstream (
"09"); they are converted to integers so month and quarter sort numerically. - Records are published on business days only, so a 30-record pull spans about six calendar weeks, not 30 days.
