USGS Water Scraper
Pulls live streamflow and gage height readings from USGS water monitoring sites through the public Water Services API. No login, no proxy, no browser.
Input
| Field | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
sites | array | Required. USGS site numbers, e.g. ["01646500"]. |
parameters | string | Comma-separated parameter codes. Default 00060,00065 (discharge and gage height). |
Output
One row per site and measurement: siteCode, siteName, latitude,
longitude, variableCode, variableName, unit, value, qualifiers,
observedAt.
Notes
- A site measuring two parameters produces two rows, so the row count is sites × reporting parameters, not sites.
- USGS reports "no data" as
-999999, not as null. Left alone that sentinel would poison any average or chart, so it is compared against the series' ownnoDataValueand mapped tonull. variableNamearrives with HTML entities (ft³/s); they are decoded so the unit reads asft³/s.qualifiersofPmeans provisional — USGS data is unreviewed when fresh and can be revised later. Treat recent readings accordingly.
