Name Demographics Scraper

Enrich first names with age, gender, and nationality predictions in one run. Feed a list of names and get back a flat dataset with probability scores for each signal. No API key, no rate limits, export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.

Agify's public API predicts demographics from a first name, but calling it one name at a time is slow and you still have to handle pagination and rate limits. This Actor takes a list of names, runs all three enrichments in parallel, and returns one row per name with the predicted age, gender, nationality, and their confidence scores. It works for any first name in any language, including non-English names like Yuki, Rajesh, or Sofia.

Who uses itWhat they scrape Agify for
Marketing analystsSegment a customer list by likely age and gender before a campaign
Data scientistsAdd demographic features to a training dataset for churn or response models
RecruitersEstimate the age distribution of a candidate pool from first names
Academic researchersStudy naming trends and their demographic correlates across cultures
CRM managersFill missing demographic fields in a contact database

What it does

This Actor collects age, gender, and nationality predictions for each first name you provide, and returns each name as one flat row with probability scores.

  • 🎂 Age prediction: returns the most likely age for each name, plus a count of records the estimate is based on.
  • ⚧️ Gender prediction: returns the predicted gender and a probability score between 0 and 1.
  • 🌍 Nationality prediction: returns up to five country codes with probability scores for each name.
  • 📦 Batch processing: send up to one million names per run, all processed in parallel.
  • 🔁 Flexible modes: run only age, only gender, only nationality, or any combination.

Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.

What you can do with Agify data

📊 Segment a customer list by age and gender.

A marketing analyst uploads 50,000 first names from a CRM export, runs all three modes, and uses the predicted age and gender to build campaign segments.

🧪 Add demographic features to a machine learning model.

A data scientist enriches a training set of user names with age, gender, and nationality probabilities to improve a churn prediction model.

🌐 Study cross-cultural naming trends.

An academic researcher runs a list of 10,000 names from different countries through the nationality mode to compare naming conventions across regions.

📇 Fill missing CRM fields.

A CRM manager takes a list of contacts with missing demographic data, runs the Actor, and imports the predicted age and gender back into the database.

🎯 Personalize onboarding flows.

A product manager enriches new signups' first names to trigger age-appropriate onboarding content and gender-specific default avatars.

Why choose this scraper

What you get

How it compares

No other Store actor targets Agify the same way, so the honest comparison is with the alternatives teams actually weigh.

Configure the run

Drive the Actor from a list of first names and choose which enrichments to run. The maximum names setting caps how many rows are returned, so you can sample large lists. The Input tab lists every parameter.

A first run with the defaults:

Use with AI agents (MCP)

Give an AI agent live access to Agify through the Model Context Protocol. Add the Actor to Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client:

$claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=parseforge/agify-name-demographics-scraper"

Then prompt it in plain language to run the scraper and read back the results.

Troubleshooting

Why am I getting no results?

Check that the names input is not empty and that each name is a string. Also verify that the maximum names setting is at least 1. If the list is very large, the run may still be in progress.

Why are some fields null in the output?

Agify may not have data for a particular name or signal. Null values mean the API returned no prediction. This is expected for rare or very new names.

Why is the run taking so long?

The Actor processes names in parallel, but very large lists (hundreds of thousands) can take several minutes. You can reduce the maximum names setting to sample the list.

Why did I get an error about invalid input?

Make sure the names input is an array of strings, not a single string. If you are using the Apify UI, enter one name per line in the string list editor.

Why are the nationality probabilities so low?

Some names are common in many countries, so the probability is spread across multiple nationalities. The Actor returns all country codes with their scores, so you can see the distribution.

FAQ

QuestionAnswer
What is Agify?Agify is a free public API that predicts a person's age from their first name. It is based on a large dataset of names and birth years collected from public sources.
Do I need an API key to use this Actor? No. The Actor calls the public Agify endpoints directly, so no registration or API key is required.
How accurate are the predictions?Accuracy varies by name and country. Each prediction includes a probability score and, for age, a count of records used. Names with more data tend to be more accurate.
Can I process names in languages other than English?Yes. The Actor accepts any Unicode string, so names in Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Cyrillic, and other scripts work. The underlying Agify dataset has global coverage.
What is the maximum number of names I can process? You can set the maximum names input up to 1,000,000 per run. The Actor processes names in parallel, so large lists complete quickly.
Can I run only one enrichment, like gender?Yes. Use the modes input to select any combination of age, gender, and nationality. If you leave it empty, all three run by default.
What does the nationality prediction return? For each name, the Actor returns up to five country codes (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2) with a probability score for each. The highest probability country is the most likely nationality.
How is the age prediction calculated?Agify uses a dataset of names and birth years to estimate the most likely age for a given name. The Actor returns the predicted age and the count of records used.
Can I export the results?Yes. The Actor outputs a flat dataset that you can export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML directly from the Apify platform.
Is there a rate limit? The Actor manages request pacing to avoid hitting Agify's public rate limits. For very large lists, the run may take longer but will complete.
What if a name is not found in the Agify dataset? The Actor returns null or empty values for the missing signals, and the row still appears in the output with the name you provided.
Can I use this for commercial purposes?Yes, the Agify API is free for commercial use. The Actor itself is subject to Apify's terms of service.
