WeChat Official Accounts (微信公众号) are where Chinese brands, media, universities and government bodies publish, but the account profile only opens inside the WeChat app. This Actor finds an account by its name, its WeChat ID, a topic it writes about or one of its article links, opens one of its public articles and reads the account block every article carries: name, custom WeChat ID, original gh_ ID, the biz key used in every article link, the account AppID, its description, square and HD avatars, and a working follow QR code.

Coverage comes from Sogou's WeChat index, which serves 10 result pages of 10 articles per query. In our tests the account lookup found 36氪 with 24 indexed articles, 丁香医生 with 19 and 新华社 with 12 from the first three pages, and a single topic search for 人工智能 returned 10 different publishing accounts with fresh articles from the same day. Every row in a 10 account run carried the original ID, biz, AppID, signature, avatars and QR code; the WeChat ID was present on 8 of 10, because some accounts never set one.

📋 What the WeChat Official Account Scraper does

Give it account names, WeChat IDs, topics or article links, in any mix. It writes one row per Official Account.

• 🔎 Account names. Type the account's name exactly as WeChat shows it (36氪, 丁香医生, 新华社). The Actor finds the account's own articles in Sogou's index and reads the profile from the newest one.
• 🆔 WeChat IDs. Type a WeChat ID such as wow36kr and the Actor checks the accounts behind the search results until one carries that ID.

💡 Why it matters: the biz key and the gh_ original ID are how every WeChat tool, analytics platform and API identifies an account, and they are hard to find by hand. This Actor only uses what WeChat and Sogou publish to any visitor. Follower counts, the verified company name, the account's IP region and the complete article history are only shown inside the WeChat app, so they are not included. The indexed article list is Sogou's own sample of the account's articles: Sogou ranks by relevance, not by date, and for large accounts it often surfaces older articles (the newest 36氪 article in our test dated from 2024). Very large news accounts whose name appears in thousands of other articles, such as 人民日报, can be crowded out of the results entirely; paste one of their article links instead.

🔑 Do I need a WeChat account?

No. The Actor reads public article pages and Sogou's public WeChat search. It never logs in and never asks for cookies.

🔎 Why did my account name return an error row?

The Actor matches the account name exactly as WeChat shows it, including Chinese characters. If Sogou's first pages hold no article from an account with that exact name, you get a free error row. Check the spelling, raise the result pages, or paste one of the account's article links.

📰 Why can't it find 人民日报?

Its name appears in thousands of other accounts' articles, so Sogou ranks those first and the account's own articles never reach the first 10 pages. Paste one of its article links into Article URLs and you get the full profile.

🆔 What is the difference between wechatId, originalId and biz?

wechatId is the custom ID the owner chose (like wow36kr). originalId is the permanent gh_ ID WeChat assigns (older accounts show wxid_). biz is the account key that appears in every article link as __biz.

📅 Are the indexed articles the latest ones?

Not always. Sogou ranks by relevance and offers no date filter, so the list is Sogou's sample of the account's articles, sorted newest first. Topic searches, on the other hand, usually surface articles from the last day or two.

👥 Do I get the follower count or the verified company?

No. WeChat only shows those inside the app, and they are not on any public page.

📱 Does the QR code work?

Yes. qrCodeUrl points to WeChat's own QR image for the account. Open it in a browser or scan it with the WeChat app to follow.

🔗 How long do the article links last?

Links found through Sogou are signed by Sogou and expire after some hours. Rows from your own article links keep the link you pasted.

🔒 Why did an article link return a captcha error?

WeChat asks for a captcha on bare links of the form s?__biz=...&sn=... without their share parameters. Paste the full share link (it carries a chksm parameter) or the short https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/... form.

🛡️ Why is the proxy on by default?

Sogou blocks an IP after about 20 requests. The Actor opens a fresh datacenter proxy session for every result page, which keeps runs clean.

🧾 Am I charged for errors?

No. Error rows, such as an account that could not be found, are written to the dataset for transparency and never charged.
